Bout of Books 10- Updates and Challenges

Bout of Books
I am going to participate again in this read-a-thon!  I really need to get caught up on some books andwhen I saw others participating in it I knew it was perfect for me.  It starts on the 12th!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

Don't forget to use the #boutofbooks hashtag when updating on Twitter and follow boutofbooks.
I will be updating my progress here on my webpage and on my my twitter page.
I will only be updating to this page so check back here. I also will be doing my challenges on this link so scroll down to the bottom to see them!

Oh and I am an expert this time around so I really hope I get to stop by your blog and see how you are doing!

Time Devoted to Reading
I would like to try to read 2 hours a day at least.

 My Goals:

I would like to participate in a twitter chat.  I participated in one last time around and it was a lot of fun and a GREAT place to get advice from other people.

Books I want to read:  I have a few ARCs of comics and I need to get those read!
The ones with no titles are Batman vol 4, and Damian Son of Batman

Updates

Monday
Number of books I've read today:0
Name of book:  The Selected Works of TS Spivet
Total number of books I've read:0
Number of hours read: 2 1/2.  I was on a road trip back home from Kansas so I got to read in the car.
What else I did: Since I was gone all weekend I am trying to catch up on blog posts and visit blogs since I am an expert and want to go out and cheer everyone on.  I am also catching up on my own blog posts and the challenges.

Tuesday

Number of books I've read today: 0
Total number of books I've read:0
Name of Book: The Selected Works of TS Spivet
Number of Hours I've read: 2 hours
What else I did: I may have done more reading... if I had brought a book to the DR. with me this morning.  I went for labs expecting to me in and out and then when I got there my labs weren't in the system so I waited an hour.  I know better then to not bring a book with me everywhere!!!

Wednesday

Number of books I've read today:Still on the same book
Total number of books I've read:
Books: The Selected Works of TS Spivet
Number of Hours I've Read:  Maybe like 30-40 minutes
What else I did:  I watched 3 season finales of shows.. Arrow, Once Upon a Time, and Agents of Shield so that backed up my reading.  Then I hosted a twitter chat for the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge I am hosting. Though it seemed to me that the people participating didn't realize I was a host... and that only Kimba was a host.  That was awkward.  Then I went to jump into the Bout of Books twitter party but didn't end up saying anything.  Last two times I participated I felt like my posts were just lost in the crowd so I just read other posts.  Plus I had probably spammed my followers enough tonight with twitter chat!  LOL!  As an expert I have been visiting a lot of blogs.

Thursday

Number of books I've read today: 1
Total number of books I've read: 1
Books: The Selected Works of TS Spivet
Number of Hours I've Read: 2 hours?
What else I did: I just couldn't finish the book I was reading.  I had to mark it as a DNF.  I tried to read it and love it but it just didn't work for me and I didn't want to spend anymore time on it.  I feel so guilty for quitting but I just was really struggling with it.  It was making my readathon go really slow too.  I wrote the review and it will up on Monday.

Friday

Number of books I've read today: 0
Total number of books I've read:

Number of Hours I've Read:

What else I did: Not sure if I will do anything today because it's playoffs and the Denver Broncos are playing!

Challenges/Giveaways

Monday 5/12
If you like X, try Y -- The Book Barbies

Tuesday 5/13
Bookish Battle Royal -- My Life in Books
  1. Choose three or more fictional characters as combatants – they can be haphazardly picked or themed (for example, I went with badass classic literature protagonists)
  2. List three strengths and weakness for each contender (feel free to skip this step if you’re using social media to participate in Bout of Books i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads…)
  3. Determine who would come out victorious and give a little explanation why you think they would win – get creative with the outcomes!
  4. Link in the comments and if you tweet about this challenge make sure to use the hashtag #bookbattleroyal in addition to #boutofbooks because I want to see all your dueling characters!
Ok this challenge seems fun so I am totally in! I thought I would pick Stephen King chacters:

#1 Danny from the Shining by Stephen King
Weakness: young boy, trapped in hotel with abusive father,
Strength: Can read minds,

#2 Roland from the Dark Tower by Stephen King
Weakness: Detached, Unsympathetic, scarred from death of friends and family,
Strength: Gunslinger, Loyal,
#3 Randal Flagg from Stephen King books
Weakness: Has to follow Crimson King, sometimes appears to be just some kind of trickster
Strength: Appears in many different incarnations,

I think that with Danny being able to see into people's minds he would be able to see what the others would do in a fight before it happens.  Roland would probably protect Danny from Flagg throughout the fight. While Flagg has always been an enemy against Roland through all time. Roland would eventually win because Flagg would probably disappear into another time.

  35. I have managed to stay away from the tv apart from Masterchef, but if I had distractions like Arrow, I'd have a hard time not watching :) I'm getting frustrated by all my meetings this week - three after work so far, it's cutting into my reading time!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know!! I wouldn't have been watching so much TV but all of a sudden everyone in my house wanted to watch it. I would really like the finish the book I am reading by Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yea.. there are soooo many people on Bout of Book twitter chat!! It goes by really really fast too. I had already done one twitter chat and didn't really want to do another one.
