Titanfall- Video Game Review

I recently purchased the Xbox One for the game Titanfall.  I was going to wait to buy it but when the game came out and everyone was excited I jumped in.  It's too bad that I don't love the game.  It is a first person shooter game with the added bonus of a huge robot (Titan) that spawns after about 2 minutes of game play.  You can either jump in the Titan and use it to fight or have the Titan follow you and fight with you.

My least favorite part of the game is the campaign. You cannot play this game solo, or off the internet. You must be signed in to Xbox Gold. This isn't a problem for me since I have Gold but for others this could be a problem. Also, the campaign is so confusing. I still haven't played it from start to finish. You can barley hear the dialog since you are in the middle of a battle the whole story. I haven't been able to start the game from level 1 either. I have to start where the last person playing last off... so if someone in your household was playing and got to level 6 you have to start there.

The multiplayer can be a lot of fun though with friends playing.  You can team up and jump and ride on each other's Titans. There is a large amount of game play types... capture the flag, territories.  I do enjoy that. The mic on the Xbox One though is sometimes screwy.  I have spent forever trying to get the party chat to sync up.  Really Xbox needs to fix that.  It will just take time though to get used to navigating the new Xbox dashboard.

I was able to get this game for free with my Xbox One purchase.  I like it but don't love it and just can't see it staying popular as a multiplayer only.  I also question what will happen when there aren't very many players playing anymore?  Will NPCs be put in instead?  Since you can't play a solo campaign I think eventually the game just won't be sucessful in a year from now.  6 out of 10

  1. Oh no, it's a shame you don't like this one too much - it looks pretty good! I can see how the multiplayer would be way more fun though, especially with friends. Games like that generally are.

I don't think I'll be buying it, mostly due to the price tag... it seems a lot more than the average new release game =/

  2. I was able to get this game free with my Xbox One purchase so I was happy about not buying it. Problem is .. now the games that come with the Xbox are digital downloads only (no disk) so even though I don't like it I am not sure if I can sell it. Bummer.

  4. It does look awesome, I'm sorry you don't like it more. We debated it but think we're not even going to go with an XboxOne, or if we do, it'll be down the road when the next version comes out. We JUST got our PS3 with GTAV, so we definitely know how to wait. Just can't afford these things when they come out. We are anxious to get a PS4 though, since our favorite series ~ Kingdom Hearts ~ will be putting out 3 on it, at some point. Probably when there is a release date is when we will start making plans to try to save for a PS4.

  5. OMG I know!! I can't believe Kingdom Hearts is finally going to be released on a console again. I am not a handheld gamer. So I don't have a DS ... so I have been missing all the games on there including all the Kingdom Hearts games. The new systems are very expensive. I wish the Xbox One didn't make you buy the Kinect with it.. that added $100 to it. Right now also.. Redbox doesn't have games for the Xbox One or the PS4 and I really only rent games so that's a bummer too.

  6. I used to really be into gaming but have gotten out of it. Reading your gaming posts make me want to start playing again :)

  8. I'm not a 1st person shooter fan. I like 3rd person better. Do you like the Xbox One? Is it better than the 360?

  9. Sorry this didn't end up being as good as you had anticipated (though from those screen shots it looks like it has interesting graphics and setting)- I would dislike having to play a game only on multiplayer, myself- it sounds really frustrating to never be able to go single.

  10. I find it annoying that I can't play single player. What happens in a year when no one is on playing? That game would just be collecting dust. I do think it is a neat setting... you look around and can see aliens and what not. But there is the next problem... the plot and storyline. Where is this game taking place??? What is even going on?? The campaign barely explains anything ... I am in the middle of playing and then all of a sudden an NPC starts trying to talk to me like I hear them over the craziness of the game. Ok rant over.

  11. Ok being in constant battle the entire time would piss me the heck off to not be able to hear dialogue. I swear the worst thing about some of these games and new blockbuster movies is they need to turn up the dialogue sound and turn down the explosions. I want to keep my ear drums.

    It does look sweet tho!

  12. I know! I just watch a story too. I don't mind the multiplayer, in fact you don't even want to know how many hours I've clocked on Halo mutliplayer. But still.... I think there also should be a good story mode. I personally think this game was trying to get a jump on the big multiplayer game Destiny coming out later this year.
