Top Ten Tuesday- Classic Books

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic is Top Ten Classic Books.  I have been trying to get classics into my reading list every now and then.  I really love classics to be honest.  I keep meaning to join the Classic's Club which is a great online community but just haven't made the time.  Alas!

I really want to get better at creating graphics for the blog. On Top Ten Tuesday I see a lot of blogs do neat graphics to display the books they pick.  So I am going to start practicing and figuring out Picmonkey.  I wish there were a few more tutorials out there about the website but I haven't found very many. That's OK though.. it's a lot of fun to try new things.  So whenever the topic interests me for Top Ten I am going to try to do something fun!

Well off to my list:

1.  Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
2.  Dracule by Bram Stoker
3. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
4. The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
5. I Capture the Castle by Dottie Smith
6. The Code of the Woosters by PG Wodehouse
7. The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
8. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
9. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
10. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alex Dumas

What about you??  Do you have a great classic you love ???  Also.. any tips on Picmonkey?  Or have you found any great tutorials for it?

  2. Lovely list. I've got Pride and Prejudice and Catcher in the Rye on my list, along with different books by Louisa May Alcott and Oscar Wilde. So I guess we have similar tastes!

  3. I absolutely adore Little Women. It's one of my favourite classics that I've reread many times. :-) I hope you enjoy these classics when you get around to them.

  4. I need to read way more P.G. Wodehouse. I have only read that one book and I loved it sooo much!

  5. I know.. I keep stopping by other lists and realizing I missed quite a few books that just happened to slip my mind!

  6. I am loving seeing all the different books this week. Some I realized I just need to push up on my TBR pile!

  7. I really enjoyed Little Women myself. I read it for a bookclub on goodreads a few years back and had a lot of fun discussing it too. The movie is pretty good too.

  8. Oh, pretty graphic! And I haven't read any of these books YET, but I want to read DRACULA. Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Dracula is really good.. and actually really short. So I would recommend that being the first one you dig into on this list.

Nice picks! I could never get into the classics myself. Although The CoMC was like my only fave from school! Ironically that was the cover of the book we used too!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  11. Great list, I chose Pride and Prejudice too! The Count of Monte Cristo and The Picture of Dorian Gray are two books that I have been meaning to read forever!

  12. Nice graphic! And great list! I love P&P and The Count, too (and I quite like classics in general). And I Capture the Castle is on my tbr :)

  13. I just love Pride and Prejudice. Definitely my favorite classic. I have been meaning to read I Capture the Castle for ages! I even bought a copy last year, but I still haven't devoted any time to it. Shame on me.

  14. Dracula, Frankenstein and O! Pioneers are at the to of my very short list of classics I love.

  15. You know.. I didn't think I would like classics. I think you just have to find the ones that suit you. Maybe you need to try a different genre? Go for the horror ones since I know you like paranormal books. You could try House on Haunted Hill. I really liked that book!

  16. The Picture of Dorian Gray is really a neat and different book. It is really short too. The one I read had some great illustrations to go with it too.

  17. Oh wow.. the first novel??? That is great. My first one that I can remember is the Secret Garden.

  18. Thanks... the graphic was.. well tough. I spend a long time on it. Once I learn everything though I think making graphics will come much easier to me.

  19. My book club actually read I Capture the Castle so it gave me a great excuse to read it. I had heard so much about it and couldn't wait to get started. The movie was pretty good too actually.

  20. I have I capture the castle on my kindle and I need to get to it! Have you seen the movie version?

  21. I haven't read most of these, but I did read and enjoy Little Women. Also, I am kind of obsessed with PicMonkey ;) That's what I use to make all my stuff, I think it works the best of anything I've tried. I love your graphic this week, it is such a fun idea!

  22. How could I have forgotten Little Women on my list this week? I used to read that book all the time. I even read it out loud to my sisters. I tried The Hunchback once, but I just couldn't get into Victor Hugo's writing style (my having tried and failed to real Les Mis before that might not have helped either.) I may have to give it another go sometime though.

  23. Good for you, making the graphic (I like it!) and deciding to do something a little different each time you do a top ten! I really didn't like Catcher in the Rye, it's probably one of my least favourite books, but I love Jeeves and Wooster and I Capture The Castle is an all time favourite! Such a wonderful, wonderful book.

I have to read all of these but am excited to, especially for Hugo's books. I am a bit scared of the Les Mis length but I'll manage. Dracula will happen soon I think as well.
    Happy reading!

  25. GAH. I still haven't read I Capture the Castle, and I bought it AGES ago. Great picks! I particularly loved Dracula and anything by Austen and Wilde ;)

  26. I love Little Women! And I definitely need to read some of the Jeeves books and also I Capture the Castle.

  27. I loved the movie.. plus the movie has the guy who plays Superman in it.. Henry Cavill!! He was just as cute back then as he is now!

  28. I am so using picmonkey now for everything. It does take practice because all of a sudden there will be a perk I didn't know how to use. I really wish there were better tutorials out there. Maybe once I start learning I will make more tutorials for others to use. People would probably get some great use out of them.

  29. Les Mis is one I really want to read.. but the size is so daunting. I hear it is really really good though. so I should just make the time to read it.

  30. OMG I am really surprised you didn't like Catcher in the Rye. Shocked actually. But I can see someone not liking the story. Holden is a little baby... wanting his way and what not. But I see it as to do with his mental illness. He doesn't even really know why he is acting the way he is acting.

  31. Dracula is really good.. nothing like the vampires of today. He is a sophisticated vampire and the story is written in a unique way for the time it was written. Hope you give it a shot.

  32. I Capture the Castle is a good book.. cute. It's been a while since I've read it now but it reminded me of The Secret Garden a little.

  33. Jeeves books are so funny.. if you are looking for a laugh that's the way to go.

  34. My sister loves them, having discovered them in college.
