In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army. Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice. When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.
I flew through this series.  I repeat.. I LOVE THIS SERIES.  I cannot get enough of it.  I am so glad that I picked it up.  I was a little nervous since this book is long... and that there was going to be another character added.  But again Meyer does a fantastic job of world and character building.

This time around we get to travel to space.  A new character Cress (Rapunzel) is added to our crew.  I have to admit, I could be a fangirl of this series.  I will admit I liked this better then the second book.  Scarlet was a good book and I still gave it 5 stars.. but this book is even better.  Perhaps because it's longer and I get into the world even more.  We learn more about the characters we already knew.  the plot in this book is flawless.  I cannot wait for the next book Winter.. or even the prequel Fairest.

Cinder is just as fun in this book as the others. She has a big decision to make in it about which characters to follow since the "team" splits up.  Scarlet is barely in this book.  She has her own misfortunes going on.. but I have a feeling she will be in Winter a lot. Cress is introduced again where Cinder and her crew (Thorne, Wolf, Cress, Iko) have to go and rescue her.  That of course is a huge deal.

Thorne is still my book boyfriend.  I haven't had one in a long time and I really like him.  He reminds me a little of Captain Kirk from Star Trek.  I actually pretty much read Cinder, Scarlet and Cress in a row.  So I am so sad that I have to wait to finish this series! NO! I will admit though I didn't see a lot of story parallels to Rapunzel.  Scarlet and Cinder had more of their origin stories in their books.  The only thing Cress really had was her hair (that I noticed unless I missed something).

I really think this is an amazing series.  It has been fun and the writing has been spot on.  Winter is one book that I am hoping maybe..just maybe I can get an ARC of (I seriously never care if I get ARCs).

The crystal ball says:

Sun is shinning!!!  Great day to go outside and read this book.

Be sure to read my other reviews for the books in the series:

  1. I like Wolf more than Thorne. This series is SO fun! I haven't read Cress yet, but I NEED to!

  2. The Lunar Chronicles is such a great series, isn't it? I liked Cress more than Scarlet, too. Not that I didn't love Scarlet because I did, but it wasn't my favorite. I also cannot wait to get my hands on Winter.

About the Rapunzel fairytale, though. Another aspect that Meyer included in Cress is the trek across the desert. That happens in the fairytale. Also, how Thorne is blind. In the fairytale Rapunzel cries and her tears fall into the prince's eyes and he's cured. A little different in Cress obviously.

  3. I'm going to have to read this series. I've been lurking around in the shadows reading all the reviews for the books but the more I read the more it's become apparent that I'm going to have to break down and read them! Do you think they would work in audio? I noticed my library has all 3 in the audio versions but I don't think all books translate to that.

  4. Ooh I'm almost finished with this and I'm loving it too. This is one good series, and it only gets better with each book.

  5. It was so hard for me to pick Wolf/Thorne. But I think that I feel like in the books I know Thorne more. Though I must admit... Wolf in my mind looks like Alcide from True Blood the show. CUTIE!

  6. OOOOOHHHH Thank you Quinn!! I was wondering what the whole blind thing was. I guess I am not as familiar with Rapunzel as I thought (even though I did read it for my Tangled Project Disney post). That is right now that you say that about the eyes, though I don't remember the desert scene. I am going to re-read that fairy tale now since I know it is so short.

  7. I was a little bummed about Scarlet being so absent. I could tell though that at the end of the book she will play some big roles in the next book. This is the first series in a long time where I am a little disappointed that Winter will be the final book. I wish the series would go to like 7 books or something.

  8. Oh wow... good question about audio. I am not really an audio book person. I don't know what it is. On a road trip I will listen to them and I have had a love/hate relationship with even that. I think that if you are an audio book listener go for it! If you aren't then I would just read them. Cinder I think is shorter then Scarlet and Cress so you wouldn't waste too much time if the books aren't for you.

  9. I agree. It's like each book Meyer's writing skills get better and better. The world building too just keeps growing in each book. The next book will probably have us getting our first really good glimpse at Luna and I just can't wait!

  10. Don't you just love this book? I am crazy about the whole series. Can't wait for 4th book.

  11. I love this author! I can't wait to finally finish this book..I got about half way and irl stuff got in the way!

  12. I am going to try to figure out how to get the ARC for Winter. Though I have no idea how to go about doing that. I need to figure it out now!

  13. I love this author too. Very impressive writing. I actually can't wait to see what she has in store for us after this series.

  14. I can see that the characters made this book for you (: I'm excited to eat my way through this series, especially since I haven't a single bad thing! I'm dying to read them, just so I know what you're talking about, when it comes to the awesome-ness of the characters and the world! But you're right, this book's length is kind of intimidating!

  15. I'm totally with you on liking Cress more than Scarlet! So many things came together for Cress and it just felt like such an epic adventure. And Cress and Thorne are just too adorable. I'm going to do everything in my power to steal Thorne away from you btw. LOL I love that you compared him to Captain Kirk cause I TOTALLY see that! Now you can wait in agony for the next book with the rest of us! Yay? :D

  16. This was a longer book I think then the rest. But honestly.. once you start reading the story is just so wonderful you don't even mind the length. The characters are really what make these books for me. Meyers just writes them so well. You feel like you know them and they know you. The men are to die for and I never feel like that in books!

  17. Ughhhh agony waiting for the next book. I honestly thought there were only three books until I read Cinder and then discovered that there were four. I couldn't believe it. I thought for once I was going to read a series that was already out! Joke was on me. Unfortunately since Scarlet was barely in this book I feel like I really didn't get to know her character very well. Even in the book Scarlet she was the one I felt the most detached from. But I still love this entire series.

  18. I've only read the first two books in the series but I really want to read this one now! I've seen so much fangirling and love for the new characters so I need them in my life. Lovely review Angela! So glad you enjoyed it. :D

  19. Okay, I think I just moved Cress up in my stack of books. :) I was a bit put off when I found out it wasn't the last book in the series, I kind of slide it towards the bottom.

  20. I really haven't fangirled over a book... well it's been a long time since I can even remember. I was lucky enough to be able to read all three in a row too!

  21. I was kind of put off too. I really expected it to be a trilogy but I guess I didn't really research it either. I am just so used to trilogies that I would never have expected four books.

  22. So glad you fan-girl over this series too!! The parallels that I noticed where more with Tangled. Finn and Thorne are quite a bit alike. She's the prisoner in the tower with the hair, naive and dreaming of the world outside. He's reckless, yet caring. Plus, he cut her hair just like in the movie. That's what I noticed about the two. Love your review! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  23. Did Thorne cut her hair?? I thought she did it herself since he was blind. I love Tangled by the way. I just love this series and try to push it on other people like drugs. " Here read this book .. NOW! "

  24. Tangled is fantastic. Absolutely one of my favorites.

    He did! :D

"'Sorry but it grows back,' he said, not sounding at all apologetic. He began sawing through the tangles, one handful at a time. Grab, cut, release. Cress held perfectly still. Not because she was afraid of being cut - the knife was steady in his hand, despite the blindness, and Thorne kept the blade angled carefully away from her neck. But because it was Thorne. It was Captain Carswell Thorne, running his hands through her hair, his rough jaw mere inches away from her lips, his brow furrowed in concentration."

  25. OHHHH YEAH!! Man.. see I must've only been thinking about Throne and what he looks like. Not Cress. I seriously must've just skimmed that scene. I remember him helping her put the wraps on her feet. I just love this book so much. I thought i remembered everything from it.

  26. Cress is probably the best book in the series! It's just so much fun and so much detail added into it, and I am so excited for the next book! At least there will be Fairest to tide us over.

  27. I can't wait for Fairest too!! When I heard about it I was so fricken excited.
