Top Ten Tuesday Bookish Confessions

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic is Bookish Confessions.  This is a repeat topic and what's crazy it's my first Top Ten Tuesday topic when I first started blogging.  LOL!!  So crazy.  I have quite a few confessions so here goes:

1.   A confession that some of my readers may not know is that 98% of my books come from the library.  I hardly EVER buy a book anymore.  I just can't afford all the books that I read.  I do get jealous though when I see everyone's bookcases. Especially those booktubers!  Man their bookcases are huge.

2.  I love my ereader!  I never thought I would say that but my mom bought me one for my birthday a few years ago and I didn't think I would like it. Of course since mom and dad got it for me I gave it a shot and just love it.  I get quite a few Netgalley books on it too!  I have upgraded from my Nook Color to a Nexus 7 tablet which is really nice and I enjoy taking it on trips.  The other good thing about an ereader is that I don't have to worry about the covers matching on books.  I love my covers matching and can't stand when they change mid-series.

3.  I moderate two big groups on goodreads.  The Stephen King Fan group which now has almost 7000 members and the Young Adult Book Club which about 7000 members too.  I work really hard on these groups and it's pretty fun.  Feel free to stop by and join in.

4.  I get mad when I go to the library and someone is parked in one of the two spots set aside for people who are supposed to park and just go up to the building and return their books and then go back to their car.  Instead they park in those spots and go inside and do whatever.  THE SIGN IS IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE!

5.  I didn't read all through high school.  I just didn't have time.  I read all through middle school (Fear Street) and then I didn't read again until college!!  I just was more into other things and now all I can think about is all the books I missed out on!

6.  I don't cry when reading books normally.  Maybe it's that I stay away from books that make me cry.  Just not interested in being sad when I am reading.  I want to be happy and get away from normal life.  So I haven't even bothered reading Fault in Our Stars because I know it is supposed to be sad.

7.  I do NOT loan out books that are signed.  I just refuse to even give someone the possibility to lose it or ruin it.  I'm sure it would be an accident if they did that but I just don't want to deal with it.

8.  I hate people loaning me books and saying it is the best book ever.  I think feel like I have to read it and then push it up in front of everything else on my TBR pile!! I would much rather have a gift card to a book shop.  Funny thing is though I always want to gift people books that I love.

9.  I am NOT a writer.  I swear that people who don't read just assume that if you are a reader then you are a writer.  I can't think of plots at all.  Just ... none.

10. I do NOT bend corners of books to save my spot.  That who "dog-ears" annoys me and that ruins the book.  I mean how would you like to read a library book is someone has bent it all to hell????

What about you??  What are your bookish confessions???

  1. I love my Ereader too. But my ereader is my phone. I have an iPad, but I nearly always read a book solely on my phone.

Dog-earring to me is a travesty! Lol I never do it! Even if I have to annotate I'll use sticky notes over dog-earring any day! Love your list!

  3. My mom reads on her phone too.. I just don't know how you guys do it?? That is such a small screen to me. Like I have to squint to see the words.

  4. I also can't stand when a paperback's spine is bent. NO NO ... just don't bend it so hard and life will be good!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I HATE dog earring. I just don't think there's any need for it! Great confessions.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I really don't like when people do it to library books. I mean really????

    ReplyDelete
  7. Great list! I also tend to borrow more books than I buy from the library. Though there are some books (sequels and whatnot) which break that exception. :) I am SO like you with dog-earring books. I can't stand it!

  8. I can't afford all the books I read, either. I've rediscovered my love for the library, that's for sure! And oh goodness, #8, yes! I feel the same way.

  9. These are awesome confessions. I get most of my books from the library too. I consider it a trial run so I can read all the books I'm curious about and then buy the ones I really like.

I didn't think I'd like my ereader either, but now I sort of love it. The battery life can be a problem because it's a pain to have to plug in, in the middle of a book. But traveling with almost a whole library is AWESOME! And I love that I can highlight them as much as I want.

But I don't loan any book - signed or not. I've had too many ruined (and by ruined sometimes I mean they cracked the spine).

  10. I'm a chronic dog-ear-pager! But, only with my own books. I used to write in the margins - again, only with my own - but that's a big no-no these days.

When I used to get books from the library - and I only don't now because the Chicago library system is terrible - I sometimes got a kick out of other people's notes in the margins. Or when I buy a used library book and find those - once, someone wrote "YOU COWARD!" and underlined three times, in The Man Who Lived at the Ritz by AE Hotchner - sometimes it pleases me. I'd hate for someone to do it to one of my books, unless the graffiti-perpetrator was someone whose commentary enhanced my reading experience.

I love my e-reader for certain things, mainly books that are too cumbersome to lug around. I don't have a smartphone or anything like that, but I sometimes read on the computer, too. But it's still mainly the old-fashioned books that come with me on the train or elsewhere.

  11. You're new layout looks gorgeous! My pet peeve with the library is when people don't return their books when they're supposed to. My library's website tracks the books that are checked out, and when they're due back, and the one I'm waiting for is overdue by about two weeks. Stop hoarding! lol

    ReplyDelete
  12. Almost all of my books come from the library too. I just don't have the room to have loads and loads of books!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes to #9!!! I have no interest in writing at all. I don't like getting books loaned either. I'm always afraid I'm going to lose it or damage it or worse not like it!

    ReplyDelete
  14. That is an EXCELLENT point about not being a writer!! I get asked this all the time by people who I tell about my blog - oh you read a lot, huh? You must write, too! Um, no. It's like people think that you must be reading in order to inform your writing or something, and you can't just read a lot because you love it. O_o

    ReplyDelete
  15. I never dog-ear book pages either! I prefer my books, especially my hardbacks, to be in pristine condition. I am very careful while reading not to break the spine either. People looking at my bookshelves probably doubt that I've read most of the books on the shelves since they all look so crisp... I have read (most of) them, I'm just really careful with them!! :)

I actually cry all the time while reading, so I try to avoid sad books for that reason. I also don't want to be sad when I read. Sometimes I do read those sad books, but I prepare myself, and I will often listen to them instead of reading the print version which helps me keep a little distance.

And YAY for library love. Most of the books I read come from the library, too. Or Netgalley/Edelweiss.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love my e-reader too, though I am kind of mad that I bought certain books for my kindle instead of physical copies. Now, if the price is comparable, I go for physical (mainly because I am a bit jealous of everyone's lovely book collections!) I read in high school, but not in college. I had no idea what to read in college, and with swimming and classes and such, I had zero time. I didn't even pick reading back up until a few years after college, and this makes me sad.

Oh, and I cry at the drop of a hat while reading a book. Seriously, character stubs a toe? Cue water works ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Curse people who dog ear their books!!!! Curse them all!!! I haven't attempted an ereader yet. I love books too much. They are a work of art. I like turn pages. I like pretty covers. I like the smell. I like holding books!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I would argue that you are indeed a writer! You write this blog, right?! But I get what you are saying, you don't have ambitions to be a novelist. :) I don't either. I'm not that creative and I love living in someone else's world!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love my kindle! People are always giving me a hard time about it (you're not a real book lover if you don't read real books!) but it's so convenient. I also get almost all my books/ebooks from the library. I only buy books by my favorite authors, and even then I don't buy all of them. I might buy 5 books a year at most.

Booktuber shelves... Bah, I often suspect it's a picture pasted on the walls haha :D I am so jealous of them :D
And I didn't read through HS either, lazy I suppose. Too much other things to do. I am still catching up now which is a shame. I hate feeling left behind with books.
I don't loan books, period, signed or not. I got one back so battered I thought I might kill the guy I actually normally like. Just made me so mad...
And dog-earing... Nope. I hate ruining books in any way.

    Good post!

And love the new look :D

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't have much money for books either, but I do love it when I've saved up a bit and kept it aside so I can buy a new book! That's always really wonderful- I hope you have some moments like that, too, when you can buy books, and I hope they're wonderful books, too! x

Also, I love the header you're using for the TTT's- it's really neat!

    ReplyDelete
  23. My book confession is I take a MINIMUM of one week to finish even one book. Being busy contributes to that, but the major reason I think is I like pause from reading often to imagine the scenarios in my head....

    ReplyDelete
  24. HA! You are hilarious! But I completely agree with the loaning, and book gift giving! I don't really use an e-reader, besides when I have review books from netgalley. AWESOME confessions!

  25. I love my ereader, too -- a Kindle Paperwhite, which replaced my sturdy-but-slow Sony PRS-505. And I would never loan out a signed book - I try to keep them in good condition! (I do sometimes read them, though.) Nor do I dog-ear. But I am occasionally guilty of putting a book down open, with the spine up, if I can't locate a bookmark.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ughhh the dog-dogearring. I could do an entire post about how it makes me feel to get a library book with a ton of dog-ears! Am I using that word right????

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know right....when people loan or buy me books I am just like... NOOO!! Then they keep asking how I liked it or have I read it yet. The pressure to read that book is nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I feel the same... I just can't write a plot for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cracked spines are the worst. I don't know why either. I hate it too when they just bend. I am like NOOOooooo. I haven't really read a paperback in a long time. Since most my books come from the library they are all hard back. My battery life on my ereader lasts a pretty long time. So I haven't had much issue with it. But I do love how many books I can fit on it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yikes with the dog-ears! Of course.. I suppose if it's your own book and you go to re-read it and don't mind then life is good. Ok.. I have never seen notes like that in the margins of books.. but they actually sound like fun to read! i would live to read along and see someone commenting.

I really didn't think I'd like my ereader. I swore up and down that I would hate it.. and I was just a physical book reader. Now I love my ereader sooooo much!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh no! My library doesn't have any of that information on their site, so I have no idea if a book is late or not. I always turn things in on time. I just don't like late fees that's my big motivator.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well.. I do want more books but to be honest the bookshelves I do have are totally full. I used to have them decorated like with books lying flat or facing out but now I have so many books that they all have to stand up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't want to be a writer either. Well I suppose I want to be one inside. But there is just no way. I haven't even wanted to try to write anything. I write in a journal and that's about it. And that is a mess.. my thoughts are just everywhere... scattered.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am not afraid to lose a book.. but I do have to shove it up on my TBR list and that bothers me. I usually have to read what comes in from the library so this will mess it all up!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL! Yes!! "Oh you read? So are you writing a novel?" I do like secretly wish I could write a book.. the reason for this is because I imagine that writers have such a great mind. While I am sitting here watching Big Brother are they sitting there just making movies in their minds????

    ReplyDelete
  36. I always take the cover off of a hardback. I am so scared to ruin those too. I usually like a cover on my books so that people can see what I am reading.. but on hardbacks unless the title is right there no one knows what I am reading!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't like sad books either. I don't want to be sad while reading. I want reading to take me away to another place that is fun. I don't mind sad scenes but reading about cancer and dying is just not for me. I don't know if I could ever prepare myself!! Seriously.. I just avoid sad books like the plague.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I didn't start reading again until in college. I am sad I didn't read in high school but I did have fun doing other things. Now I think I read just because it's comforting. I feel like I accomplished something too when I finish a book.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thank you about the template! The look is totally fun. I can't afford books either. There is just NO way. Especially since I anticipate a great book coming out and of course first it comes out in hardback. Cress is a good example of this. I read it from the library but will buy that one when it's in paperback. I just don't want to pay the hardback price.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was just like you before my ereader. But I do love physical books. I would never stop reading physical books. EVER. I agree about the feeling of a book.. the cover.. the smell... !!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I do write this blog! That is true. Sometimes I have to really site around and think about what I am going to write too!! I wonder what a person's mind thinks who is a writer. Are they constantly thinking of the next book??

    ReplyDelete
  42. I only buy about that many books too. Which is not very many. They are from my fav authors/series. I love love my ereader. I like that I can see the screen clearly, I don't need a bright light near by, and it is so lightweight. Perfect for my purse.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am so jealous of booktuber shelves. I don't think I could ever be a booktuber because people would just laugh at my book shelf. I think the more popular ones have an amazing bookshelf behind them while they are talking.

No ruining books people... we should start charging people who return a book and it's all jacked up when you get it back.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks! I made that header for TTT right before I posted this post. I love using Picmonkey. I do buy books every now and then. I have like 4 that I haven't read yet because the library books get shoved before them. I have decided to stop participating in the groups I run on goodreads just to catch up on the books I own.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Plus... you know... we've got movies to watch!

    ReplyDelete
  46. My ereader has been amazing for Netgalley. Though I have had a hard time getting the graphic novels I read on to my ereader so I just read those on my laptop.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I had an old Nook Color.. which actually wasn't very bad. I "thought" it was great. Then I upgraded to the Nexus 7 and realized just how dated my Nook actually was. The Nook Color isn't a tablet so that too made a big difference. I will put a book down spine up too... but I will make sure no one goes near it to accidentally smash it down and bend the spine!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm not a huge crier either, in books or anything else. Maybe we're both just heartless? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL... sometimes I suspect I am heartless when it comes to books. I don't want to read about other people's sad lives!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I totally understand the borrowing books from the library thing. I rarely buy books either, and most of the ones I do are ebooks, just because buying a whole lot of real books is just so expensive. Thank goodness for libraries, that's what I say! (sorry for not visiting back early. It's been one crazy week and I'm just catching up now.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. #1 - I predominantly read library books too! But I need to dedicate a few months to my personal bookshelf this year and avoid the library because I have so many unread books. I just can't resist the library though, especially when they keep adding new releases, which I want to read before anyone else has had the chance to touch them. New clean shiny library books are my thing. Haha.
#2 - I love being able to read ebooks on my Kindle and tablet as well. Though in my case, I converted my dad, not the other way around. Lol. Been wanting a electronic reading device since I was 8 years old, and these things weren't even on the market yet. They were featured in the science section of a children's monthly newsletter/magazine and I was besotted. It's so much easier to tote around a selection of books like that.
#7 - Loaning books in general doesn't jive very well with me. I like my books to stay in good condition, which not everyone appreciates.
#10 - Dog-eared books make me cringe. I mean, who does that?! It looks terrible when people do that, so I don't understand why people can't just use bookmarks or remember the page numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I feel the same about my personally owned books. I only have like 5 that I haven't read but I really want to get them read. It's like a library books come in and my owned books gets pushed back.

I just really love my ereader. I am still seriously glad I gave them a shot. I remember being so anti-ereader. I think that is neat that you saw them in a magazine.

Luckily for me.. I don't know any readers in my life except my husband and he is allowed to read the books. Though one time I loaned out the first Harry Potter book and 2 months later they hadn't read it so I told them to get it back and kept pursuing them till I got the book.

I feel the same about Dog Eared!! Why people WHY!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Great list! I empathize with almost all your confessions, although I don't, unfortunately, moderate an awesome goodreads group. Perhaps I'll try starting one sometime :) I share your hatred for dog-earing and think it's terribly rude to do that to library books. I love my library and don't buy many books either. I would never, ever lend a signed book! I'm nervous even to read them myself.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The goodreads groups are fun but I find myself participating in them less and less anymore. I don't know what it is.. busy blogging to be honest. I still try to make the groups fun though as a moderator.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Awesome list! Most of the books I've read come from the library also!
