Sunday Post

Let's chat about what's going on this week... on my blog.. on other blogs... on the internet... and just everywhere!    I link up my post to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Reader and Stacking the Shelves.

I finally getting around to commenting on all the comments on my blog from the last week. I was on vacation in San Diego,CA.  If you commented on anything be sure to check out my responses.  Especially the ones on Gone Girl.  There is some great conversations going on there! I am getting caught up on visiting blogs too. I have been busy again with family visiting me this weekend but it's always nice to see family. I need to type up a few blogs posts that I am behind on.. one being the movie Guardians of the Galaxy so be on the look out for that tomorrow.

It's time for football again!  I was able to attend the Denver Broncos scrimmage which was pretty fun!

On the Blog:
-I talk about my crazy adventure at San Diego Comic Con 2014
-I have a new Comic Adventures covering Guardians of the Galaxy, Olympians Aphrodite, Damien Son of Batman, and Supergirl.

Around the Blogospere:
-Have you seen Blogging for Books?  This is similar to Netgalley and Edelweiss but looks better for publishers honestly.  You have to review the book and you can only borrow one book at a time.  Once you read it and review it you get a new book.
-Wordpress doesn't allow you to do blog tours on your blog??  WHOA.  I don't care for blog tours but for those you that do like them this could be a problem for you.
-Sad to see another blogger get plagiarized and is leaving the blogging world.  I really enjoyed Fiktshun's blog.
-In case you hadn't heard, Nose Graze is trying to launch a site similar to goodreads called LitRate. Seems interesting and it's nice that this is being launched by an actual book blogger.
-I am sure by now you have seen the new Harry Potter UK book covers.  I love them so much!
- Sci-Fi November is coming.  It's created to celebrate everything amazing about science fiction! From TV shows to movies, books to comics, and everything else in between, it was intended to help us share our love and passion for this genre and its many, many fandoms.

Internet:
I love the Halo video games...so I am getting excited about the new Nightfall series.

Books Books Books:
No new ones this week since I put everything at the library on a vacation hold.  Though I am reading Beauty Queens by Libba Bray for my book club this month.

  2. So I'm always curious about plagiarism charges, so I went and read that post. I don't know her, or pretty much anyone who commented on the blog, and I think that may be part of the problem. There are so many of us now, too many to really even try and keep track. I think sometimes, there will be reviews that are similar to each other, I think its almost impossible for it not to happen. I'm not doubting the blogger, or what happened to her, but I also am forced to think how quickly coincidence can be turned into something else.

  3. You saw Guardians? Looking forward to your thoughts... it seems to be getting rave reviews. I'll have to check out Blogging for Books... I don't usually do ARC's but that may change my mind. The plagiarism thing I just don't get- I mean if you don't write your own, what's the point? Sorry to see that happen.

I'll have to check out Sci Fi Month, that sounds like fun.

    Yay football!

  4. I don't know that blogger too well myself. I follow her blog for her discussion posts, we don't read the same books so I don't really comment on reviews. I am curious what she did to report this plagiarism. There are ways to report it if she is on blogger or wordpress (not self hosted). I don't think I have the most amazing reviews so I don't think anyone should copy mine. I have no idea how I would find out either. I just hope someone sees mine and theirs and is able to tell me about it.

  5. I don't get plagiarism either. Why blog if you don't say what you think??? I would never want to copy what someone else says that seems boring to me. I like to say what I think and see if others agree/disagree. But we all know plagiarism happens because so many blogs have talked about it over the years. Sci Fi Month was really fun and neat last year so this year I had to participate.

  6. Thanks.. Comic Con was super fun. I still have to go over to that post and reply to all the comments!! I think I might save that for tomorrow though.

  7. Thanks!! It was fun but I am glad to be sitting here watching The Killing on Netflix and Blogging!

  8. I so want to go to Comic Con one year. I was bummed to her about Rachel, I will never understand copying other's work.

Your Comic Con posts killed me...I want to go :) Maybe one year I will but for now I was happy to look at your pictures and read your experience regardless of how jealous I was!!!

  13. I hope you had a lot of fun at Comic Con - I hope to make it there one day!
The new UK covers for Harry Potter are awesome. I'm going back to UK for university in a bit over month and I might just have to go and buy at least a couple of those new editions.

    Have a good week! :)

  14. I am curious about LitRate, and I've been seeing mention of it a lot lately.

Curious post about Word Press and blog tours...I guess I've never done the kinds of tours they are talking about. My participation consisted of posting a review on a scheduled date. I don't do them anymore, as they feel too much like work!

I want to enjoy blogging...and sad about the plagiarism issue on that one blog.

    Have a great week...and here's

    MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES POST

  15. I'm pretty happy with Goodreads and probably wouldn't consider switching to another site except that my shelves are a mess. It's completely my own fault for not organizing as I went, but the opportunity to start over and do it right this time is very tempting. I've been trying to fix things on GR, but it's a huge job. I've even considered starting a second GR account to start over, then deleting my first one after transferring over anything I wanted to keep. Bloggers will be flocking to LitRate when/if it opens, so I might as well just wait and do it then.

I'm going to check out your Comic Con post next!

  16. A HALO movie!! It was only a matter of time... Funny thing happened this weekend (well, not so funny to my hubs). Xbox LIVE was down from Thurs - Friday night sometime. But the thing was, he put in his game disc and got a black screen, his game wouldn't boot, even after disconnecting from LIVE. That was a symptom, the Xbox forum said. So people were a wee bit pissed, to say the least. Someone had a Halo party planned and everything.

I love gamers.... I wish I had enough coordination to do it myself... :) btw... hating you a little b/c you went ComicCon (I'm SOOO kidding!!!) Lucky!

BTW - I talk about plagiarism on my Sunday Post... sort of....

  17. Looks like you had a great time at Comic Con! My oldest saw Guardians of the Galaxy the other night and loved it. I don't follow the blogger who was plagiarized but like Ryan below I'm curious. I know there have been several times that other bloggers and I have had the exact same problem with a book and it was clearly not plagiarism. That being said it is too bad she feels this way as when it really comes down to it this whole thing is supposed to be fun. Have a great week!

  18. It is interesting that Ashley is going to give this a go. I wonder how it will compare to all the other book sites out there.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I did read another bloggers post about all the books she got at Comic Con. I have no idea how she did that or where these books were. I did see the publisher's booths but didn't see them handing out books at all. So apparently if you try hard enough at Comic Con you can get books. She ended up with like 60!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks! I am excited about that Halo film. Should be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ashley does seem to be very computer smart and is using that really well in the book community. Since she is a blogger and a lot of know her I think she will have a really successful career if she keeps going the way she is.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love those covers too!! How fun that you are going to the UK. I don't know if we can order them in the US or not? I will have to look into that. I feel lucky that I have been to comic con twice but it is a very expensive vacation for us coming from out of town. We try to get a hotel down by the convention center and that costs pretty much $300 a night. Sometimes I felt it was too expensive to not get to do exactly what I wanted to do.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have never done a blog tour, and I don't even want to. I find them boring and never read anyone's. But I do think it's wrong of Wordpress to do this. Now though everyone is again going to be pushing for self hosted. I mainly think the blogs who get a profit from this push it the most.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wouldn't switch from goodreads either. I am happy there and run two bookclubs there that I have been running for years. So I have no interest in starting over somewhere else. Though I do like "booklikes". If I didn't already have a blog I might've moved over there. I'm not interested in backing LitRate on Kickstarter only because I don't even buy books so I don't have money for that. But I do look forward to seeing what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wait .. so did his Xbox Crash? Even if Xbox Live went down there should've never been a blank screen because you can play that game off line? I have had Live go down while we were playing and it does suck. You are all into the game and then you lose all your friends and everything and are stuck playing campaign.

I just can't wait for Halo to be released on XBOX One. That is going to be epic.

  26. I wasn't sure quitting blogging was the right thing to do. But clearly that blogger who was plagiarized must've felt really upset. One time in my life I was plagiarized on a facebook post! I wrote something and then like a month later I saw someone use my exact statement on their blog. I was like.. what the hell! I didn't really care enough to like say something. It was like two sentences or something that I wrote that was like a joke. But really.. they copied it??? WEIRD. Tonight I plan on writing up my Guardians review.

Some day I'll make it to ComicCon! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Sci Fi Month seems interesting, I'll have to check it out.

    Have a great week. :)

  28. Where did this idea originate? I have not seen this "rule" anywhere, and I have nine WP blogs. I don't do blog tours, but I am curious as to how this idea came about? I went to the WP home and couldn't find anything about this.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Boo to summer nearly being gone, but Yay! to football. :) I will one day go to a Comic-con! Back in the 90s I went to a few Star Trek conventions and I even went on a Star Trek cruise. All were fun! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sad to hear about plagiarism, wow. Too bad someone would resort to that behavior when we all work so hard for what is a hobby for most of us.
Glad you enjoyed Comic Con. My kids wanted to go since we don't live too far from it, but we missed the boat on that. Enjoy your week.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't know since I am on blogger. Parajunkie's post talks more in depth about where to find this "rule". I haven't actually heard of anyone's blog getting marked as spam and pulled for this so maybe it's just got people talking and excited about the topic even though nothing has ever actually happened to a blog for posting a blog tour.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Sci Fi Month looks interesting too!! I can't wait to be apart of it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't know why someone would steal someone's thoughts either. I just want to write what "I" think about things. I have my own opinions which is why I have a blog afterall. It is quite a sad situation. She had been plagiarized before last year. Someone stole the graphics she made for her blog. Though that person did take them down.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Star Trek cruise sounds so fun. I am more of a Star Wars girl so that would be more my cup of tea. Football Football! This week Broncos play on Thursday and I can't believe the time has come already!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It looks great. It was really fun last year so I am sure this year Sci-Fi November is going to be just as good.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know right? No one even gets paid to review.. so why would you copy someone? It's not like $100 is on the line or anything. If you live close to the con you should totally check it out. Most people I see at the con are from California. Lucky Lucky people you are!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooh, lots of interesting news there! Lots of links to check out. XD I'm not 100% sure about this new Goodreads though. I like the old on! lol
So sad about Fiktshun though. I'll go read that post. :|
I'm kind of shocked wordpress is dictating what content you're allowed to post about. Um...how are they allowed to do that?!!

Glad you had fun in San Diego... and hurray for football!

  39. I've always wanted to go to Comic Con. It sounds like so much fun, but I'm sure extremely crowded. I hate crowds :) Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for helping spread the word about LitRate! :) I'm also totally in love with those new Harry Potter covers. They capture the stories really well!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thank you Ashley. Honestly those blitzes and the copied and pasted ones bore me and I would be glad to see them go. I am always surprised they even pull traffic into a blog to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Do you feel like the new Harry Potter covers are spoilerish??? I am just not sure about them in that aspect. Though the art is pretty amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't like crowds either but every now and then.. I just put up with them. I just concentrate on the group I am with. Plus most of the time you are just sitting around so I just read during this time.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think so. I think they'd only be spoilerish to someone who has already read the books and recognizes the scenes. But for someone who's never read them, I don't think they ruin the book.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I barely use goodreads anymore. Not like I used to. So this new one might motivate me to try again. It sounds like that wordpress ban might actually be a good thing after all. It will get rid of the blogstours that are similar to spam.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hurray for football season!!! I am already researching and preparing for my fantasy draft!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have used Blogging for Books, it seems pretty cool, not a lot of YA offered though. And WOW I had no idea about Wordpress, that was a great post that you shared, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh that's so cooool! I would love to go to comic con, haha.
And I love watching live sports! Sounds like you had a lovely vacation! Hope you have an awesome week!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow, this is what your new design looks like, it's great, I love Alice !! Looks like you had a blast at Comic Con, you're so lucky to have been there - and we're lucky you told us all about it. Have a great week ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I need to get my fantasy team together.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love going to live sports too. I am not a TV baseball fan but I love to go to a game. I love the atmosphere and if I go with great friends or family then it is really really fun.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I looked through Blogging for Books catalog and didn't think there was very much YA either. But I have seen a few people use it and it wouldn't surprise me if more publishers use it because you are required to do a review. Which of course is why people are given ARCs anyways.. to review them. So we'll see if more books get added.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank you! I love the new design. It is fun!! I am glad you liked the comic con post. It was fun telling everyone all about it.

  54. Are you participating in Sci-Fi month? I'd love to see what you did for it, Angela!

  55. I am going to participate in it.. it's not till November but I should start preparing my post soon since I want it to be thoughtful and good. The pressure!!
