Utah Book Month- Jenni Elyse

I can't believe Utah Book Month is over... seems like the month flew by.  I get to interview Jenni Elyse who has a wonderful book blog! I really enjoy her blog, especially her Twitter Journal where she reads a book and shares her feelings on twitter as she reads along. She will then do a blog post covering her journey with the book and twitter!

I asked her a few questions to get to know her better.

Q. Why did you start blogging??

A. Well, I didn't initially start out as a book blogger. I started a blog because my stagnant website was becoming too much and too boring. I didn't want to keep up with it anymore. Blogging was just starting and my husband introduced it to me, so I thought I'd move over to a blogging format. I was scared at first that I'd have nothing to stay. 7 years later, I still have things to say.

About 4 years ago, I turned my blog into a book blog because I wanted to talk books. I didn't really have anyone to talk books with as often as I'd like anyway. And, I had friends who always asked me what I was reading or what they should read. And, since I already talked books most of the time on my personal blog anyway, I just made the change and it's been awesome. I've made a ton of friends through my blog and that's the best part of blogging for me.

Q.  What do you love about Utah?  Are there any places (other then your house) in Utah that you love to go and read at?  Do you have a picture of this place to include?

A. I love the scenery, especially the mountains. Every time I travel, I always miss the mountains. They feel like home. I don't really enjoy reading outside, mostly because I had a hypersensitivity to the sun--I break out in a huge rash. IF I didn't have this hypersensitivity, I'd love to read anywhere the weather is nice and cool. One of my favorite places in Utah is Bear Lake. Occasionally, I go sailing with my husband's family and I'll read on the boat. It's awesome because it's cool and there's usually a breeze. (Here is one of my favorite pictures of Bear Lake.)

Q.  Are there any upcoming events on your blog you would like to highlight? Or do you have any unique features on your blog that you want to mention?

A.   I don't really have any upcoming events on my blog. I just got done with a 3-month long read-along for The Lord of the Rings which was fun. So, I'm kind of "evented" out, lol. I have a couple of features that I do on my blog that I really like. The first is my book vs. movie feature. Each time I see a movie that is adapted from a book I've read, I compare the too and tell my readers which one I prefer. Normally, the book wins, but sometimes the movie does. The second is my Twitter Journal. I post all the tweets/thoughts I had about a particular book I was reading. It helps remind me of how I felt. I only do this with "special" books, though, like The Lord of the Rings.

Q. Will you be attending the Utah Book Month get together at the end of the month?  Have you been to one before?

A.  Yes, I'd like to go. And, yes, I've been been to the previous two as well as some other Utah book blogger get togethers. They're always a lot of fun because I many of the Utah bloggers are my real-life friends so I love hanging out with them in person. (I hope you can make it! It'd be fun to meet you in person too!)

Q.  Well.. I left this one blank by accident!  I think I sent the email too soon.  So luckily Jenni told us a little more about herself here and made my mistake into an awesome answer!

A. Since this question is blank (not sure by mistake or on purpose), I thought I'd say just a little bit about me. I'm a Potterhead through and through. Harry Potter and Twilight are what got me reading. I didn't read much as a child or as a teenager. And, I can only claim that I really started to read in June 2007. So, I'm still new to the game, but enjoying every minute of it. I love cats, llamas, and almost every other animal imaginable. I actually wish I had many of them, even if they're deadly and ferocious, as a pet. I also love the color purple and often dye my hair purple for fun.

I would like to thank Jenni for taking the time to join in the Utah Book Month fun and allowing me to interview her!  So fun to get to know other bloggers.  I encourage you to go and check out her blog and give her a little love.

  3. Yes, it is. His place, Sundance, is actually only about 25 minutes from where I live. It's in the mountains and it's beautiful!

  5. Fun interview you two! I enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about Jenni. I kind of orient to the mountains too. It always makes me feel like I'm home when I get back to them.

  6. I think that living in states with mountains you just can't help but love them. Since I am living in Colorado I am just so used to the sun setting in the west which of course is where the mountains are.

  9. I love both the water (ocean) and the mountains, but the mountains more. I feel disoriented without them. It's almost like I have agoraphobia when I'm in a place without mountains, but not really, lol.

  10. I actually just enjoyed this view yesterday. My husband and I spent the day sailing and I took a few minutes to read. But, I mostly enjoyed the view and being outside.

  11. You're welcome! It was the first time I slept over on my in-law's sailboat. I decided to get a picture of the sunrise because it was so pretty. :)
