The Hobbit Lego- Video Game Review

Another Lego game!!  YES!  I have played all the Lego games that have come out. So fun.  Just easy going games that really everyone can play. This one adds some new features that the other Lego games don't have.  For example you now collect items to make objects.  So when you shop bushes you get logs/rope and then use those items in the game to make something. One thing that did annoy me about this game is why Lego didn't just wait until the third movie came out to release this game?  This is because the game only includes the first two movies (Hobbit/Desolation of Smaug) and not the third movie.  The game was released in April they could've waited a few more months.  Is the Battle of the Five Armies Lego game going to be on one game now?  Or will Lego re-release this game and include that movie in it?  Who knows!

I love that this video game has the same humorous feeling that the other Lego games have.  I usually laugh out loud a few times while playing these games. In this particular Lego game you have to go on a mission to find the black smith and help him out.  This became frustrating because I would have rather had the black smith available earlier in the game so I could build more objects sooner in the game and not have to go back and replay some sections once the black smith was available. Most of the parts in the movies are present in the game.. including the barrel scene which lasted a little longer then it should've.

There is also a find the missing piece game added to this Lego game which is different from the other Lego games out there.  The faster you find the piece the more gold money you get.  This was fun and a great edition (the Lego Movie game had this feature also).  Another feature in this game is that the characters do a two person attack.  So the dwarfs will link arms together and break something or attack a creature. There is also campfires located around that change the game from day to night.  This prompts different types of game play to take place.

I enjoyed this game and I like that Lego keeps putting out these games and adding just a few new features in each game to keep things interesting.  If you haven't given the Lego games a chance this is a fun one and you should give it a go.  B+

  1. I haven't played any of them since Indiana Jones. But they are always enjoyable. The original Star Wars remains the only video game I have got my wife to play with me, though the vehicle levels made her mad.

  4. This is embarrassing but I've never played a Lego video game before. :( I really should rectify that.

  5. I enjoyed this game a lot though the Marvel and Harry Potter ones are still my favorites. There were some neat new features for this though and it looked amazing. I liked how open the wilderness felt - that was fun to explore - and I took more time to explore and destroy things than I usually do.
My biggest complaint: some of those dwarves do look a little similar when you're trying to select the correct pairings for the two-character combos...

  6. I didn't even know this game existed, but it looks fun. We've been marveling at al the cool stuff LEGO has out, and that screenshot makes me want to play. THe barrels down the river...too cool! :)

  7. Oh hack yes!! I love the Lego games as well. I haven't played all of them but I own them all lol I've played all the star wars and Harry potter and Indiana Jones ones. The batman one just didn't do it for me. Probably because I'm not a huge batman fan all I didn't finish that game.

I can't wait to snag this one. And yes you're right, why didn't they just wait and bundle all three movies together!??

  9. These are so fun!! I have such a good time playing them. I don't even know what show/movie I want to become the next Lego game? I mean it would have to be something that is a series and epic. What do you think will become the next game?

  11. These are just so fun. It's really fun if you play two players too. My husband and I always try to play together, though when I had this game we only had one controller so we didn't get to play together.

  13. I agree about being able to explore more on this game. BUT I will say what annoyed me is that I would explore and find a cave but there was nothing I could do in the cave because I didn't have that character I needed or the specific tool. The world was so big there really wasn't a possibility that I would go back to that cave either. I AGREE with you about the dwarves looking too similar. I would sometimes have to bring up the character wheel in order to determine which dwarf was which.

  14. Lego has become so cool now now, right? I mean... I love to go in the Lego store in the mall and just look at all the cool different setups there are now. There is about to be a Scooby Doo set available soon. Just wow!

  15. I really want to play the new Batman one and am hoping my library gets it soon. They take forever to get games sometimes. ERRRRR I don't know if there will be a future Hobbit game including all the movies so you may want to wait to buy this one.

  17. I think they will be milking marvel for a while.

Maybe Teenage Turtles just because they have the licensing on the lego side at least.

  18. Ooh, I love the Lego Games. I’ve played a demo of this and it was pretty fun, but kind of… only playable for me once, because it was long and got a little boring. But I love the Star Wars ones, and we’ve got the Harry Potter one, too- and Indiana Jones, I think- and all of them are hilarious and so enjoyable. I played them with my brother and it was just really fun. Unfortunately out PS3 doesn’t read discs anymore, so I’ve got to decide what to do with that so I can rent the lego movie game and play it, because it sounds fun, from my memory of your review!

I wonder what game they’ll put out next…?
