Top Ten Tuesday- Book Related Probelms

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic is Book Related Problems I Have.  I do think readers have problems.. some of mine are serious.  So let's go.

1.  Being like number two hundred on the library wait list for a book I am dying to read.  I get most of my books from the library.  Almost all of them.. so when I go to the library's website and put a book on hold and see that my number is higher then ten... then that's a problem.

2.  Cover art work changes in series.  I can't stand this!  Though I did ask an author once why they did that and they said that the publisher changed and the publisher decided to go with a new cover.  Makes sense I guess but don't they know that there are those of us collecting those series books and we want them to match??

3.  Series.  Reading a series and then reading new series so then it's hard to get back and finish that first series I was reading.  Right now I have 3 or 4 series that are finished but I have been reading other books and just haven't gotten around to finishing the series I already started!  NOOOO!

4.  Wanting to just read all day long.  Yes I wish I could read all day long.  But I have things to do and TV shows to watch.. video games to play, a blog to run.  The list goes on.  I seriously don't know how some of these other bloggers read so many books.

5.  Not having my books in the living room.  I wish I could just stare at my bookcases all day.  But alas they are up in the room I have designated as the library.

6.  Bookmarks.  I can never hang onto a bookmark!  They get lost all over my chair.  So I end up grabbing anything in sight to use for one.

7.  Stickers on book covers!  Ughhhh I hate those price tag stickers on books and on my DVD covers.  Just drives me bonkers.  I always pick them off and my husband looks at me like I am crazy.

8. Books for gifts.  People buying me a book for a gift and I had no intention of ever reading that book.  Now that is awkward.  Though I read it anyways because they swear it's great.

9. Books and Movies. Needing to read a book as soon as you see a movie coming out that's based off that book.  I must do this.  I cannot watch a movie without reading the book first!

10.  Game of Thrones THE BIGGEST PROBLEM.  George RR Martin will not finish Game of Thrones in a timely manner.  I mean... WOW. Stephen King can push great books out super fast.

What's on your list this week????

  1. This is a great list and I agree with all of them. I hate the stickers on book covers and I do pick them off. I have gotten pretty good removing left over glue with a bit of goo gone on a rag after letting it dry on the rag a bit so it doesn't wet the cover. I have also had the same problem with reading more than one series at once. Also, with the high reserve number at the library it never fails that a bunch come in all at once and it is a mad scramble to try and read them all before they are do. I don't want to let one go because then I put my name back on the list at 100 again.

  2. I love your list and your ecards. I totally agree with 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. They would've made my list had I decided to make one, lol. I'd probably add people interrupting me while I read, having to wait for books in a series to be published (which goes along with your 10, but I haven't started GoT yet), and my cats wanting to be in my face everything I pick up a book to read.

  3. I'm seeing that some of us readers might be a teensy-weensy bit neurotic when it comes to books!

    Here's my Top Ten!

  4. LOL at the Library wait list. Story of my life, the struggle is real! My kid likes to make me book marks at day care so I always have plenty...then he pulls them out of my books and I have to re-find my place.

  5. Wanting to read all day long, oh yes, I wish ! You know what I found as bookmarks in books at the library ? Toilet paper ! Even a tampon... (unused, but still). My biggest problem with GRR Martin is that his books... are big ;) And I hate stickers on covers too.

  6. Oh those stickers drive me crazy!! Why must they make them so hard to remove. Series get me every time. What drives me crazy is that it takes me so long to actually get to the next book in the series that I don't really remember what happened clearly and I need to reread the entire series but we know that's not going to happen!

  8. Stickers on book covers! YES, I absolutely loathe stickers!! And waiting lists.

And I just got a book from a friend... and it's so not my kind of a read.. sigh...

  9. You tried Prospector from your library? It connects a good share of Colorado libraries. Not only do I find EVERY book I look for, wait times seem better.

Ha, I totally agree! Stickers on my books drive me bananas, and I sit there using all sorts of goo-removal stuff to make sure I can get them off and not have sticky books.I hate when they change the cover art, but also when they change the size! I have at least two different series where the later books are larger sizes than the earlier ones, so nothing matches. Arrrrrgh. Great list!

  11. Agreed! Especially the series one. I kinda hate that I'm in the middle of a million different series.

  12. Great list! I also get annoyed when I put my name on the hold list for a book I really want to read and I find out that I'm number 100 or 200 and that's the worst thing that can happen to me because I really want to read that book so badly and yet I have to wait for months just to read that book because the hold line is so long!

    Here's my TTT!

  13. Oh books as gifts are rough--uness they buy from your wishlist then I'm all for it. Otherwise I want a gift card so I can buy one I'll read. lol And gah yes to the stickers!

  14. Cover art is big for me, and #4 too. Need reading time... and LOL at gRRM

  15. Gaw the dreaded stickers. I mean.. the worst are the ones that hard to come off. Yes... it is awful when all the books come into the library at once. I forgot all about that! I haven't been putting very many books on hold at the library because I have been trying to read books I own first. Though... I did just check one out that I am reading now so it's kind of a cheat. LOL!

  16. I finally did a Top Ten Tuesday. I have to admit I've been getting lazy on them, plus I don't always have a ton of answers for them either. I don't get as bothered as others when I get interrupted with reading. Maybe it's because I read with the TV on so I am usually concentrating on both that and reading so I can easily ignore someone talking to me. Your cats must be young! I love when cats hop in my face but now my cats are older so they have a harder time getting up on the chair.

  17. LOL... yes we sure do. I mean.. reading is my PASSION!

  18. How neat that your kid makes you bookmarks!! I love this!! I am always trying to either memorize the page I was on or I am looking around for a wrapper or something to hold the page.

    ReplyDelete
  19. OMG! That would be so fun to work at a library and find the different things that people use for bookmarks! I think that is really kind of neat. Though the tampon... well.. they must've been desperate.

  20. The place that always sticks them on the worst is Best Buy. Those stickers can be so hard to get off DVDs! Lately I just wikipedia series to find out what happened. I am tired of re-reading an entire series just because a new book came out. Ughhh

  21. So many chores and stuff to do around the house. I don't ever get to just sit and read and do nothing until I go home and either visit my parents or my inlaws. Then I really do feel like I can just sit all day and read. It's wonderful!

  22. Getting books from friends can just be hard. I read them because they handed the book to me and I feel like I should read it. I have found a few to be quite enjoyable after all .. though I didn't expect to like them. I just like to give people giftcards to a book store instead of picking out a book for them.

  23. I have not heard of this before and am totally about to google it and see what it is all about. That you for sharing this information with me!!

  24. LOL! I love the Study series myself. Plus Snyder is so nice. She should put a stop to these book cover changes. I think another thing that happens is when you are a big fan of the book series you end up with a lot of different editions. I have so many copies of Harry Potter and LOTR. Ughhhh... it's not like I need that many copies.

  25. That size thing is what happened with my Sookie Stackhouse books. First off the first three book I have in the series are in paperback because at the time they didn't come in hardback. Then I started buying them in hardback and the last like 4 or five books are larger hardbacks. What is that about????

  26. I am in the middle of a bunch of series too. I can't decide if I should finish them or keep reading the books I own which is my other goal for this year (other then finishing series).

    ReplyDelete
  27. I always try to keep checking my library's catalog for when a new book gets on it so I can get on the wait list early. Especially for DVDs. I really want to get on the list before it's hits like 500! Sometimes it does for movies. Yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes... it would be nice to get gift cards. A friend of mine gave me a Stephen King book for my birthday this year and it was lucky I hadn't bought it yet!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. GRRM... he announce too that there won't be a new book in 2015. I mean when in the world will it come out??? 2018??

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have been feeling like that lately with the books I own. I have made it a goal this year to finish reading the books I own because that is why I bought them after all.

  31. Pretty much all of these ring true for me as well. I hate stickers on books. I have exactly the same problem at the library - right now I'm still waiting for the new Jayne Ann Krentz book that came out in early January, and I've only made my way from #53 to #15. Gah. Mid-series cover changes drive me nuts. Reading all day is such a temptation, but I can't afford to!

I do get to look at some of my books in the living room, though. We have shelves in every room except the bathrooms. (Well, granted, there's just a tiny shelf on my nightstand in the bedroom.) So my hardcover SFF books are in the living room, my indexing and writing books, hardcover mysteries, children's books, and some of my romances are in my study, there are cookbooks and reference books in the kitchen/dining room, and everything else is on shelves in the basement.

  32. I love that you get to looks at books in all your rooms. I have some books in the guest room on the nightstand for guests to read. I do have shelves in my living room but they are filled with my decorations, so I look at those all day. I love to have things in my sight that makes me happy.
