Comic Adventures Issue #21

I read a lot of comics and rarely review them here on the blog. That's because I really don't have a lot to say for an entire post.  So I thought I would review several comics on one post.  I will still review graphic novels on their own now and then, but this is where I will talk about super-hero type comics (DC/Marvel) or sequels to some that I have already reviewed.

In this issue I talk about the Final Jack of Fables Vol 9 The EndGreen Arrow Vol 2Fables Cubs in Toyland, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Vol3.

I made it!!  I finished the Jack of Fables comics.  It was a ruff ride at times but since there were only 9 issues I knew I could do it.  Jack of Fables was a comic that was kind of all over the place.  This last issue wraps up a lot of the story.  The ending was unexpected to me though.  It was just wrapped up super fast... meaning spoiler- they killed everyone off-.  WHAT??  I don't know why I finished this series.  Jack of Fables isn't that great so I would say skip it.  It was like I just needed to finish it though.  Someone pointed out that Jack Frost only has his eye patch on for the last half of the comic!!  Well I didn't notice that but I supposed that's how you can really tell they were tired of writing this comic.  It's just too bad Jack doesn't get to stay in the world of the original Fables comic.  This comic gets 3 out of 5.

Green Arrow has really turned out to be a disappointing series, and I am only on volume 2.  I didn't even finish it though I got pretty far.  The story line is confusing, all over the place.  The art is not my style at all.... I want to see Oliver Queen a little more manly and he looks boyish to me. There is this odd story.  Ollie finds these triplets... or i should say they find him.  He goes with them to where they abduct him... but then he escapes somehow. There is a huge monster bear ... then more girl stuff... his sidekicks don't know what to do because Ollie never keeps them informed... all of a sudden at the end of the book BOOM Hawkman.  Umm... WHAT?  I had so much hope for these comics because of the show Arrow and seeing Green Arrow in Smallville.  Both are fun to see Green Arrow in so check those out instead of this comic series.  1 out of 5

I am getting so far in the Fables comic series.  Almost finished with it.  This issue was creepy.  It was all about a dark and evil Toyland.  The whole issue is dedicated to the cubs of Bigby and Snow White.  Three parts of the prophecy that Ozma gave Ambrose have been fulfilled.  We also get a little side story about the Fables back at Mr. Dark's (the boogieman) castle. That is the story I really want to read about hopefully we will see more in the next issue.  I can't believe I have only 3 volumes left and then I will be done with the Fables series.

I am loving these DC He-Man comics so much!!!  I have loved He-Man and She-Ra since I was a little girl.  I still have the action figures and all that jazz.  This comic really does carry the series further. She-Ra is finally re-introduced to the series here.  I love it.  The artwork is amazing too.  I saw that as of right now the series only goes up to volume 5, so I'll be bummed if the series only goes that far.  I like how we are pretty much being reintroduced to the He-Man universe.  I don't remember much of it.  I did go to someone's house over Thanksgiving who had an ENTIRE bedroom dedicated to He-Man figurines.  The ENTIRE room people!!  It was nuts.  But it was also amazing.

This counts for 12 comics towards my 2015 Graphic Novels Challenge!!

  1. Oh I so need the He-Man ones, I used to love He-Man and She-Ra! I have a random question for you, have you gone to any Free Comic Book Day celebrations? I am thinking of going this year and wondering which store I should hit, if I should go early and if I should bring Munchkin.

  2. Angela! I’ve really missed seeing you around- what have you been up to?

I see you’re reading Fairest. I finally got through Cinder and actually rather liked it, in the end, and am keen to continue with the series if I can get Scarlet on audio- not sure if I like it enough to read the books, though I probably will. What’s your favourite book in the series so far? (And thanks for urging me to try again with Cinder- it was pretty enjoyable!)

I tried the Fable comics but they weren’t really my thing- a bit to adult in the sex and violence for my liking, but I’m surprised that there are only three more for you to read. I guess I thought they’d be, kind of, endless- like the Phantom comics! The never ending series! Hope the next three are ace. Xx

  3. LOL... I have been slacking on the reading and blogging side of things. But I am trying to catch up. Visiting blogs is one of the main things on my list too! I just had so much company the past month that it took me forever to get back into the swing of things.

So about Cinder, I did suggest it to another friend but she didn't care for it. I think that you just have to get pretty far in it to really start to enjoy it. My favorite book so far???? Hummmm..... I did really like Cress a lot though I wish Scarlet had been in it more. I am really enjoying Fairest so far. I like seeing how a villain becomes evil.

Fables I think were more sexual in the beginning. Now I don't even remember the last time there was a sex scene??? I guess that Fables have been around like 15 years so I guess they had to end sooner or later. Plus for a while there, like the edition I reviewed here, the story line was going nowhere to me. Anywho... about to go check out what you've got going on Romi!

  4. I have gone to the Free Comic Book Day you can totally bring Munchkin. Usually the comic book days are actually set up for kids not really adults. If I remember correctly each store gives out different comics so you may want to check around and see which comic book store is giving out which comic and then chose which one to go to from that.

  5. Thanks! I have been following it on Facebook and it seems like there are a lot of adults (and a lot of costumes) so I wasn't sure if it was okay for toddlers/preschoolers. I have 3 different locations participating within 5 miles so I think I will drive by until I find one that wasn't too overly busy.

  6. I can't agree more with your review on the Green Arrow. This is one of the few series that NEW 52 seemed to destroy. I liked it so much better when Oliver married Black Canary. He was a badass back then and I like the team up of the two. This is just disappointing. I hate to admit it but I would rather read the series based off the TV show. At least that has a better story to it.

  7. I couldn't stand Green Arrow (I am so sorry I am getting back late to commenting). It was just.. off. I don't know. I know it's up to volume 6 now and sometimes I want to read a latter issue and see if it got any better. But I don't want to waste my time. I want to read the comic based off the show too... I would hope it's good. But I don't even know if I want to bother with it.

  8. I read Vol 4 or something a while ago and dint like it at all. Green Arrow was so much better before New 52. I did read the first volume of the TV show graphic novel and that was pretty good. It was just like an episode.
