Denver Comic Con 2015

Another year, another comic con.  Every year I say I'm not going back to the Denver Comic Con but the geek in me always brings me back. There was nothing there I was really looking forward to but it ended up being a fun time.  My legs hurt from all the walking. Denver Comic Con always sells out.. so it is jammed packed.  Since there was nothing my husband and I were dying to see we didn't go there and line up before they opened, we were able to just breeze right in.  Which was really great since we are getting so much rain here and it's cold out.  (This is actually the second time I am going to type of this post because it didn't save when I switched profiles).

We started our day walking the convention floor, which was jam packed.  So Saturday we really couldn't get very close to the booths that day.  We attended the Gwendoline Christie panel which was so fun.  She is from Game of Thrones and plays Brienne of Tarth.   During her panel she stated that when she was in acting school in London she was told that she probably wasn't going to get an acting jobs because of how she looks... HA!  The way she looks actually got her some work.   She talked about Star Wars a little.. not much.  I am excited to see her in that role!!  The audience wasn't allowed to ask any questions, probably because they would've only asked about what is going to happen on Game of Thrones and what is her role in Star Wars.

Gwendoline Christie

Next up we got to meet Jim Butcher... who is the author of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera series.  He was so cool.  Took a picture with each fan and actually talked to each person.  All the book signings I've been to I was rushed through the line but this particular book signing was really personal.  Butcher was all dressed up for the con... I wish I could find a picture on the internet of him walking around the con dressed up. My husband even had Butcher sign his badge to get into the Denver Comic Con.

Next up we got to see Manu Bennett who is known from the show Arrow, Hobbit and Spartacus. This panel was just so fun.  He is an amazing speaker.  He talked about his nudity scene in Spartacus which was hilarious... to his role as Slade Wilson on Arrow. It was really interesting when he start talking about playing Azog in the Hobbit.  He had to use motion capture for this role so he never actually got to act with the other actors. Manu got up on this chair during the panel and acted out how it was like to be on a Warg during motion capture.  We also got to hear him talk about his role in the upcoming show on MTV called Shannara based off the book with the same name by Terry Brooks.  I am excite about this show.. though it is on MTV so we'll see.

The last panel we got to see was Sean Astin.  Many of you know him as Samwise Gamgee and Mikey from the Goonies.  He was pretty talkative.  Though for some reason Denver Comic Con couldn't get the lights turned down even though he aske multiple time for them to be turned down.  He simply wanted to see his fans.. how hard was it to just turn off the spotlights.  At the very end of this panel Astin had us  stand up repeat the Goonie promise... so now I am an official Goonie!!

My favorite part about the con was that I was able to sit in the Iron Throne.  We has a chance to sit in the Iron Throne before at San Diego Comic Con but never got in line for it because the wait was 4 to 5 hours.  So when we saw the Iron Throne at the Denver Comic Con we had to wait in line to sit on it.  Highlight of the trip for me!

Dragon Age Inquisition - Video Game Review

OK.. I must apologize to my readers... I have not really been reading books.  I have been putting a ton of hours into this game, Dragon Age Inquisition.  And by a ton of hours, I'm talking like 60 hours.  EEK!  I know.  I didn't really have time for anything else.  This game is sooo fun.  I just loved it so much.  I have played the other two Dragon Age games.  The first one was a really great game too.  The second game called Dragon Age 2 was only so so.  Very short.  Let's be honest.. after that game I didn't want to pay Dragon Age again.  Then I kept hearing things about this game so I had to play it.   This game on the other hand is clearly long and just totally worth my free time.  So glad I gave the series another chance.

The beginning of the game is not good.  When I started playing I thought... um... what is even going on.  It took about 2-3 hours to really even get going.   It starts with my character (who I get to create and I picked a mage/elf) going along with some sort of mark on her hand.  No one knows how it got there and I find out this mark closes portals that demons come through. Terrible introduction Bioware!  Then boom the whole world opens up and it becomes one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time.

The side quests are totally worth it.  You unlock new conversations and plot points.  I enjoy that each character has a tarot card that you see and as the game progresses and your relationships change the tarot cards change as well. I did feel that the collecting of plants and items sorta became a waste.  By the end of the game I had a TON of stuff that I did nothing with.  Perhaps I just didn't know how to do that part right.   I wasn't able to play the multiplayer because I don't know anyone who owns the game and would play it with me.  I did want to try it out though.

Well... now that I am done with this game I should get back to plenty of reading!
