If We Were Having Coffee

Tonight I was pondering something to write about on the blog and while blog hopping I went over to the Perpetual Page Turner and saw where she wrote up what she would do if she was at a coffee shop with her blog followers.  I loved it and thought I would do the same.  She usually has unique things to do on her blog!  So I am going to grab my Mountain Dew ( I don't drink coffee) and get to chatting with you.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you that I really enjoy blogging.  I feel that I have really transformed in the 2 1/2 years I have been blogging.  I am able to write better reviews... they used to be maybe one paragraph long but I have found my voice where I talk and am able to feel like I am having a conversation with my readers. I would tell you that I have learned quite a bit a things and feel very accomplished in what I have done all on my own.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you that I have been discouraged with the goodreads groups I moderate and have even thought about quitting one of the groups.  It's hard because I have put many years into these groups.  I started both groups in 2007 and so it is hard to let them go.   Maybe I have just grown past them.  I am thinking of maybe having some sort of readalongs on my blog now instead of on goodreads.  I have looked around for real life book clubs, but haven't really found any.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you that I was recently diagnosed with Melanoma.  We caught it early but it was still terrifying.  I want to let you know to get your moles checked whether they look crazy or not.  My mole was pretty normal looking and not that large.  I had it check out for a few years going in for my physical and only this last time did my doctor decide to remove it. PLEASE use sun screen and do not use a tanning bed.  I used one a few times in high school and college and regret every second of wanting to look tan.  I wish I would've felt beautiful in my skin color.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you I wish I could go to more author signings.  It's just usually it's about an hour drive and the fact that I have to go alone is a bummer.  I always have to ask the person behind me in line to snap a picture, and while they never mind doing it I do hate asking.

If we were having coffee....  I would tell you that I love TV, movies and video games.  I need to find a new game to play.  I don't have the new systems ... I'll wait till after Christmas to get one... but I can't wait to get my hands on the PS4!!  I also am really looking forward to this Friday when I go and see Catching Fire.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you that I love my kitties like they were my kids and I do my best to take care of them.  They both have diabetes and cost a lot of money... but I can't imagine my life without them.  My husband and I do our best to take care of them and keep them in this world a little longer.

If we were having coffee... I would tell you that this was a lot of fun and I appreciate you following my blog.  I know sometimes I review adult books to young adult books, to video games... to graphic novels.  But I hope it's fun and that everyone gets some enjoyment out of it!

Now give this a shot on your blog!!  I would love to know more about you!

  1. Blogging has definitely taught me a lot and helped me to work on my writing and I've learned SO many new skills -- html stuff, graphic design -- because of it!

I also have moderated a Goodreads group (since I created it in 2008) but since blogging it has gone by the wayside. I know I should give it up but I can't bear to! It's what got me back into books!

So scary about your melanoma scare! Glad you caught it! It runs in my family I think but I never do tanning beds and ALWAYS use sunscreen..I'm kind of a freak about it haha

    1. Good for you about tanning and sun screen. 12 years ago I got serious about sun screen and no tanning. It just goes to show that what I did in my teens has caused the melanoma. Tanning beds are terrible and I don't know what I was thinking. Well... I was young that's what I was thinking. I am so glad that there are laws going in place now where parents have to sign for minors to use a tanning bed. If that had been in place when I was a teen I would've never been in a tanning bed.. my mom would've said no.

  2. As one who also tends to write about whatever comes to mind instead of being a "book blog" I appreciate your moving about into different things that interest you.

Can't help you on finding new video games. I'm still an on and off World of Warcraft junkie.

Glad the melanoma was caught early and able to be taken care of.

    Keep writing!

    1. Well thanks! I like to write about things... though normally I don't always put my personal life into this blog. I try to keep it more into the entertainment spectrum. But my mom did email me today and told me I wrote a wonderful post on my blog today... so since my mom liked this one I might do more! ;)

    1. It's hard when you don't have much time. You want to read what you want to read. That is why I am also sick of my goodreads group. I read along with the group reads when I could be reading the books I want to read!

  4. I am glad to hear your melanoma scare worked out. There is a history of cancer in my family, and it scares me.

I would love to go to more author signings too. The big cities are 3 hours away from me. :(

    1. It's so hard.... since the bigger cites are close they just skip the small towns and know that if you really want to see them you will drive to the big cities. I have made the drive for George RR Martin, Charlaine Harris and Stephen King. Those authors were totally worth it!

    1. This is a fun post. I usually find cool things to do over at the Perpetual Page Turner. I am so glad about the melanoma too. I would've never imagined to be honest that it would even have happened to me. NEVER.

  6. I love this post. We have sort of know each other for awhile now and there was a lot I didn't know about you. This is such a good idea and if I can get a little free time I will do this too. My wife says her favorite post of mine are the ones that I open up and be more personal.

I love the different topics you write about here on your blog. I might not always enjoy YA but I do love games and movies. I can usually find something I want to read here.

    1. It is harder to "open" up on a book blog. I mean... people aren't really here for that. So I try not to get too personal. That is why I thought this post was a lot of fun..... to squeeze in some juicy info! ;)

  7. I loved Jamies post and I love your one. So good to know more about the girl behind the blog. That melanoma scare must have been awful, so glad it's ok now. I love my kitty too, she is eleven now and I can see her slowing down a bit but hopefully she still has a lot of life left ahead of her. I would miss her so much. I want to go to author signings too but they rarely happen here (especially YA ones) and when they do, it would be a five hour round trip so unless I love the author, it's not going to happen.
My hubby loves his Playstation and I know he is eying up the PS4 but I don't get the appeal at all! He plays, I read and that works for us :O

    1. LOL! It's funny, my husband enjoys video games but not like I do. I am the one always on and he is the one in the background reading. He will play multiplayer games with me though so we have a good time doing that.
