Abandon by Meg Cabot Review

I just finished reading this book for my YA Book Club's book of the month for July.  Here is the goodreads description :
New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.
Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

I liked this book but didn't just adore it.  I thought it was a great idea for a book.  A young girl meeting and falling in love with a Hades type of guy.  I love the whole Greek Mythology themed books.  I have just always loved stories in those settings.  I also loved that this book didn't have a love triangle!  Too many of those lately.  I love that this book has twists too.

What I didn't love was the ending.  I felt it happened so fast and was rushed.  The last two chapters were like a blurr! I have heard soooo much about Meg Cabot but this was my first book of hers.  It does make me want to read others like the Princess Diaries.

I can't wait for book two, Underworld, in this series because well... it must take place in the Underworld duh!  I really am looking forward to read about a plot that isn't in our world!

  1. Great review!! I looove Greek mythology as well! Ironically it started in 7th grade for me just as my vampire/supernatural obsession started! Wasn't termed UF yet! I really liked this one too. And yeah, the lack of love triangle was refreshing!

  2. I liked this one, though I think I'll love the next because like you said, the next one will be about the Underworld which I think will be way more interesting.

  4. I love Greek mythology as well and I can't seem to read enough of it! I picked up this series through a recommendation through Amazon and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. With that said, unfortunately for me, this was the best in the series. It was definitely an interesting take on the Hades and Persephone myth, but the other two in the series didn't seem as strong as the first.

If you enjoyed this series, you should consider reading Aimee Carter's The Goddess Test series. It's based on the same myth, but I really enjoyed all three!

  5. I agree about the last two books in this series. They just got dull and pointless. I have read The Goddess Test. Well the first book. I never finished the series but I know I would've enjoyed it. I just never made the time. I love books based on mythology!!
