Comic Adventures Issue #16

I read a lot of comics and rarely review them here on the blog. That's because I really don't have a lot to say for an entire post.  So I thought I would review several comics on one post.  I will still review graphic novels on their own now and then, but this is where I will talk about super-hero type comics (DC/Marvel) or sequels to some that I have already reviewed.

This issue we chat about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Angela, Olympians Goddess of Love by George O'Connor, Damien Son of Batman, and Supergirl Vol. 2 Girl in the World.

San Diego Comic Con 2014

I just got back from an amazing time at San Diego Comic Con.  If you don't know what that it.. well it's the biggest Comic Con in the United States and is very very hard to get a ticket to.  I did also go to the Comic Con back in 2012 too.  This is like heaven for geeks.  It's not just comics.  It's movies, TV shows, celebrities, authors, publishers, video games, EVERYTHING.  So much fun!

Hello!  You may have noticed this week I am behind on commenting and visiting your blogs... but I have a great reason.  I am at San Diego Comic Con!  It has been a lot of fun. My legs are on fire of course from walking walking walking.   Expect to see some posts about it next week with hopefully some great pictures.  I should catch up on blogging then too.  This is pretty much my life this week:

Project Disney- Lilo and Stitch

 

Project Disney: The plan is to tackle all of the Disney films, re-reading the classic stories and tales that inspired many of them and to look at how the changes the filmmakers made, the new elements they introduced and the essential elements they kept. We will, of course, be talking about the films as movies as well, saying why we enjoy them and what some of our favorite moments are, but our focus will be on looking at them as adaptations. For the films that are not drawn from any one work we’ll be looking at some of the possible literary influences that we see in the stories. I am participating in Project Disney inspired by Picture Me Reading!

Are you part of the blogging community?

We all see it all the time.  Bloggers discussing the book blogging community.  I began to think about it.  Who is the book blogging community and what make you or me actually apart of it??   I often wonder.. am I in this community?  It seems to me that sometimes this community are the cliques of bloggers who all know each other and have these big blogs. They get into the drama.. comment on the drama on their blog but don't actually say what said drama is.  Since they don't say what it is.. and I missed it.. because maybe I am not in this "community" I feel like I can't even join in because I don't know what even happened!!
 
I saw someone recently said "they felt like they are distant from the blogging community and don't know how it happened??" (Which is what inspired this post) I thought.. wait.. am I in this community?  Where is it?  What do I need to do to get in???  I have never really seen what is the definition of being considered "in" the blogging community. People say the book blogging community is going down hill.  So I decided to come up with my own definition for all of us so we don't feel left out of this community. I personally don't think it's gone downhill.  The book bloggers I deal with are friendly and fun.  If you do any of the following you are in this book blogging community, so have fun while you're here!

I loved Gulledge's previous graphic novel called Page by Paige.  The art in is was just amazing and the story was too. so when I discovered she had another graphic novel I had to go and pick it up from my library.

With the movie coming out shortly I knew I had to get my hands on this book and read it.  Thanks to my sister-in-law who started asking me if I had read it I pushed it up my TBR pile.  I am still thinking about this book days later.

Wolfenstein is a really really great game.  I hadn't actually planned on playing it but started to hear so much about it that I went ahead and went over to Redbox and rented it. It was so worth it.

This week I am a little behind on visiting blogs because I have actually been reading.  Yes that's true.. reading. My garden got pummeled by hail this week.   Hopefully it bounces back.  Not that a lot has been growing, but my pumpkins were doing really well.

Comic Adventures Issue #15

I read a lot of comics and rarely review them here on the blog. That's because I really don't have a lot to say for an entire post.  So I thought I would review several comics on one post.  I will still review graphic novels on their own now and then, but this is where I will talk about super-hero type comics (DC/Marvel) or sequels to some that I have already reviewed.

This week I talk about Fables Vol. 15 Rose Red by Bill Willingham, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume 2 by Alan Moore, Nightwing Volume 4 Second City, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Vol. 2 Origins of Eternia DC.

Mini Summer Bloggiesta

 

The idea behind Bloggiesta is to spend these next two days working on perfecting your blog and connecting with other bloggers who are doing the same thing. Spread the word and get all your friends to come and fiesta with us!  If you haven’t heard about Bloggiesta before, it’s a weekend (July 19-20) where we all sit down to work on our blogs, do those things we keep putting off, as well as network and meet new bloggers and participate in challenges and giveaways. Definitely check it out, it’s a lot of fun!  

I will update just this one post here so people don't keep seeing the same post over and over again.  So head here if you want to see my updates!  Here are my goals: 

1. I do this every time.  I moderate two book clubs on goodreads (Stephen King Fans and the Young Adult Book Club) and I need to moderate all the posts that happen on there.  I need to read through each and every thread/topic and use this weekend to do it since it takes so long and I have to stay caught up on it. Done! It does take a while and this is a big chore. But it's done. Plus I got the polls ready for the next book club pick in each group.

2. Fix sidebar.  I have a new blog look and haven't really taken the time to fix up the sidebar yet. 

3. Comment on blogs participating in Bloggiesta.  

4. Participate in Challenges  - I have looked at all of them. I loved the social media etiquette.

5. Go through blogs I follow and stop following the ones that no longer blog, or that I don't stop by and visit. I really need to match up the blogs I follow on Bloglovin and GFC.  I kind of mixed them up and I want them to match.

6. Back up Blog

7. Get my interviews ready for Utah Book Blogger month.

This list always grows as I see other blogger's goals.  They usually give good ideas of what to do.

I flew through this series.  I repeat.. I LOVE THIS SERIES.  I cannot get enough of it.  I am so glad that I picked it up.  I was a little nervous since this book is long... and that there was going to be another character added.  But again Meyer does a fantastic job of world and character building.

I love love Fireworks.  Happy 4th of July everyone!  Here is an amazing video where someone flies a drone into a Fireworks show.  It is really actually amazing.  I love drone videos.  Come neat things can be done with them.



Books Books Books:
Just finished Cress.  Look for the review this week.  About to start Mary Poppins for my Next Project Disney this week. I am excited to give that book a shot.  There are plenty of graphic novels/comics that I need to catch up on too. 

New Wonderland Look

I am so excited that my new blog layout is up and running.  I was sad a few months ago when my old template just pretty much quit working.  It was an older template so I think the coding on it was just getting outdated.  I had a bunch of issues I could deal with but then when the titles stopped showing I had to get rid of it. I did try to contact the person who made it.. but since it was a free template and an old one they never contacted me back. I frantically looked for another free template that I loved as much as my original but I just couldn't really find anything.
