Mockingjay Part 1- Movie Review

I have always loved the Hunger Game books... way before they were movies.  Such a great series.  The movies are great as well which makes me so happy!  There is nothing worse then your favorite books becoming terrible movies.  It should be obvious from the title that there is another movie coming... so of course this one ended in a cliff hanger.  So we'll have to wait another year before seeing the next film!  ERRRRrrr..  yes I know what happens but I still want to see the whole thing.

The movie is very different then the other two.  This is because of course we don't get an arena in this movie.  It all takes place in District 13. The movie has a stealth scene like I am in the middle of a video game, Katniss taking down some jets with her bow and arrow, and some other action is still in this film. We get the love triangle in this movie.. it's done pretty well. This movie is more of a commentary on what is going on in the world and does a great job fleshing out characters.  I am only disappointed that Woody Harelson's character wasn't featured more in this film.

I did really enjoy this movie... I didn't see it in IMAX because I really didn't feel like this movie was worth IMAX prices.  I think it was just fine on the normal screen.  It does make me want to re-read these books.  Be sure to come back... in a YEAR to see my review of part 2.  Did you go and see the movie?  What did you think?

  1. My wife and I want to see this but with Christmas coming money is tight. We will probably just buy the movie when it comes out since good or bad we want the whole series. We loved the books. Glad you liked the movie. I have been waiting to read what your thoughts on it would be. Have a great weekend.

  2. Not yet, but probably next weekend... it's kind of a bummer that there is no arena :D but I liked the first two movies quite a lot so I am sure this will great too :)

  3. I'm still going to see it, but my expectations are pretty low. I do love the series, but I found the first half of Mockingjay sooooo boring. I was kind of hoping this film would spice it up a bit.

  5. I really loved the movie! I thought it (and the others) were well done. As for the love triangle, ugh, I just don't like Gale and I don't think she loves him. It's more comfort for each other than anything.

  7. I loved the movie! I thought it was adapted almost perfectly. Of course there were differences, but I thought they made the movie more cinematic. I was extremely pleased with it and I wish I didn't have to wait another year to see the second one. (I'm also obsessed with The Hanging Tree tune.)

  8. I'm really excited for Mockingjay. I'm nervous but I've heard it's great. I'm also really looking forward to the Hanging Tree scene.

  9. Very true, this was way different from the previous two films. I thought it was true to the book though and I think they did a great job adapting. The visuals were excellent too of course! I did think it was stretched out a bit though - this probably didn't need to be made into two films. It's unfortunate that that is the trend now. I am so excited for the second film though - I know it will be amazing!

  10. I was bored to tears watching Catching Fire on Netflix recently. I think I'll pass on the final 2 installments. Glad you liked the movie, Angela!

  11. If money is tight... yeah I would say skip. That is why we skipped the IMAX. Just not worth those kind of prices. We even went to a matinee to save money on this one. Though that is expensive too... I think it's like $7.50 a person.

  12. It really did work for me. I thought that the pacing was good. The only thing is this is a story... no action really this time. So you have to be ready for that this time around. Did you go and see it??

  13. OH no... then you were probably disappointed in this movie. It is slow... much slower then the first two movies. I am late commenting because I was on vacation. What did you end up thinking??? I am going to go by your blog to see if you have a blog post on it.

  14. Ughhh.. splitting it in two is the new trend for YA movies. I mean... REALLY??? It's like the Hobbit being split into three films!

  15. I think comfort is what relationships become sooner or later anyways. Being married for a long time eventually you are just comfortable with each other. So I like her with Gale to be honest.

  17. I just love the cat's role. LOL! The Hanging Tree tune was very eery. It was smart to add a catchy tune to the film. I don't like having to wait another year for the next film myself. Too long!! Way too long!

  18. The Hanging Tree scene was great.... really touching. They did a good job there.

  19. Ughhh this whole split in two films thing. Just stop!! It was drug out ... and I think it's because of two films. There were just some scenes where I thought enough!! But overall the story was translated well to the screen.

  20. You were bored??? OK I hadn't heard anyone say that yet. Sooooo... yeah you should for sure skip the next movies. You will be really bored!

  21. Yeah, I'm not sure why. I inhaled the books and read the companion essays which really fired me up about the novel. I think, for me, the political movement is what really made these a passionate read for me. The movies stripped most of that out.

  22. I've got the books - neatly sitting in my pile and not read yet. Than the movies came out, and of course I had to watch it. But I'm still looking forward to read the books.

  23. Then you might actually like the 3rd movie. It is all plot line... much deeper into the politics and characters. So... this is the one movie in the series you might like.

  28. I haven't read the books in many years either. I don't remember anything about it... so it's like all a surprise to me! I am like... wha???? But that's good because then I get to enjoy learning what happens all over again.
