The Inheritance Cycle

One boy . . . One dragon . . . A world of adventure. When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands.
I finally finished a book! Yes!! I have read this book twice before. One of those times was when I was having anxiety really bad and I remember being happy that I read the book. It was an easy comfortable read. I am currently dealing with anxiety again so I thought why not read this book??? I have been meaning to re-read it anyways since I never read the last two books in the series. So I now plan to finish the series. It did take me a while to get through it.  I would read it... get side tracked with anxiety and then pick it back up.

Eragon is such a fun book.  The movie is awful... don't bother watching it.  This book though has just a lot of great fantasy.  The descriptions of the world is amazing.  The book was my first YA book as an adult really.  At the time I was so used to reading books like Stephen King so this really introduced me into a whole new world.  Now I love YA books.  I also enjoyed that this book is written from a boy's point of view.  Thought that was a great new take other then the books that are usually from a girl's point of view.

What the book is about really is Eragon finding his way in the world.  Though.. if I were in his situation I would just panic. He finds a dragon egg... which hatches.  Then people come looking for him and destroy his home including his caretaker.  Really he has no one now.  Then he must go through several adventures trying to figure out what is next in life for him.  Isn't this something we all must do???

I am excited to get started on the next book in the series.  I did read that one once before... but I don't really remember it.  I probably will once I get started reading it. Hopefully it doesn't take me as long to read that book as it did this one.  I do have a road trip coming up and will probably be able to get a lot of reading done on that trip.

Sun is shinning!!!  Great day to go outside and read this book.

  1. Love this series! I can't wait to see what you think of the last two books you didn't get to read. How can you stand not knowing!?

  2. I really struggled with Eragon for some reason and even though I have the rest of the series I am not sure if I will read them or not, maybe give Eldest a shot next year and see if I settle into it more.

  3. Right?! It's always killed me that she never finished the series. I really enjoyed the trip and evolution of the characters. Too bad the movie didn't do it justice.

  4. Boo!! You should just keep reading through them now :D

  5. I unfortunately watched the movie before reading the book, so I ended up not never picking up the book. I'm glad to know that this is such a comfort read for you though, it makes me curious to know what I'm missing now! :)

  6. Honestly... I just moved on to all these other books. I kept putting aside the books I'd been wanting to read and just kept reading the new books I was getting from the library. But now... I am going to read this whole series!

  7. I saw a lot of reviews on goodreads where people were only giving it one star. It surprised me. I didn't think it was that bad. I mean.. the middle of the book kind of drags when they are traveling along but then it picks right back up.

  8. Oh man... do NOT judge this book by the movie. That movie was so awful. It's no wonder no other movies were made based off the books.

  9. I've read this one, but don't remember much about it. I'm not even sure if I liked it or not. :-)

  10. LOL... well if you don't remember it, then it must've just been average for you.

  11. I always kinda wondered about this book, the dragon egg is interesting. May have to try it at some point... I still like fantasy with quests and stuff sometimes, not everything has to be all Game of thrones- ish. I'll skip the movie though... :)

  12. Eh, I liked Star Wars when it was called Star Wars =)

Sorry, couldn't help myself, I kid, I kid!

  13. Never saw the movie (my daughters did), never read the book - at least I haven't yet, but I'd love to :)

  14. I never read these series, believe it or not. The movie was awful, but hey, never judge a book by its movie. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  15. I've been meaning to do a re-read of this series for ages. I haven't read the 4th book yet. It's been years but I remember Brisingr being my favorite book.

  16. I know I know, heck I am just looking at the next two months and thinking I have to force myself to finally finish the Harry Potter series.

  17. It was a 2 star for me. It did drag with a lot of world building, in my opinion there are ways to do that without using up half the book with it. It may have been that I saw the movie first too, I kind of had an idea of what would happen (granted the movie was so loosely based on the book it shouldn't have made a difference) so I was in a little rush to get there.

  18. I used to LOVE this book when I read it years ago, and to be honest, I don't really remember much about it. Guess it's time for a re-read for me too eh?

  19. This is a good fantasy quest type story. I also agree not everything has to be Game of Thrones. This has some violence in it but not too bad. The movie was terrible. I haven't seen it in a while though... I could give it a re-watch.

  20. LOL... I suppose you are talking about the comparisons between this book and LOTR. I saw some similarities but I didn't bother me.

  21. I would recommend this book. Nice and easy read.

  22. This movie was bad. It's really too bad because it could've been really good.

  23. I can't wait to get through the series. I haven't read Brisingr at all so it will all be a surprise for me.

  24. Re-reads are the best. Did you read the whole series?? Or just this book?

  25. I would love to find a dragon egg. Sign me up! I think i need to read this one sooner then later. I mean dragons and what sounds to be a pretty unlikable villain in the king. :D Matt @ JC's Book Haven.

  27. My daughter locked herself in her room when the last one came out and devoured this series in a weekend. She absolutely loved it. I hope the rest of the series lives up to the first 1 for you. I do love a good comfort read! Now you've got me wanting to try it!

  28. I had read books 1-3 and then started the 4th one years later and couldn't finish it because I had forgotten everything that happens in it. Now I just really want to re-read :)

  30. Rereads are the best for stress relief! There's just something totally soothing about jumping into books that you know you loved (without the stress of wondering if things are going to turn out badly). I'm glad you're getting back into the series!

  31. Did you feel it was reminiscent of Star Wars? (That's what I've heard.)
Despite the fact I, too, really disliked the movie and haven't been all that inclined to ever read this, I think I may give it a try, after reading this review! it sounds like it's got a type of fantasy that I'm really into at the moment, and I love dragons- I even think we've got a copy somewhere!

I'm so, so sorry things have been tough with your anxiety lately. That's awful, Angela. I'm glad you have ways of coping with it, though, things like regular reads that help take your mind away from it. xx

  32. Do not compare this book to the movie!! I can't stress that enough. I would recommend this series if you want some fantasy and dragons in your life. Anxiety is hard to work through but I have been through it before. So that does make it a little easier. I can push down panic attacks. I can't wait for you to come back to blogging in January!

  33. February, actually! I'll come back online sometime in the beginning of Feb. (:
