This week was a good week.  Not only was I able to get tickets to the San Diego Comic Con.. but I also got a hotel room.  Both of those are pretty hard to get.

Books Books Books:
I didn't get any books this week... a few graphic novels from the library.  I am excited to read two of them.  One is Age of Ultron which is what the next Avengers movie is based off of.  The other comic I'm excited to read is the He-Man vol 1 !  I love He-Man and so I am soooo ready to read this one.

Infinite by Jodi Meadows - Review

Infinite by Jodi Meadows

Yeah!  I finished another book series.  I initially picked up the first book in this series because of the amazing cover!  I really enjoyed the idea behind this series and am glad I read it! Here is the goodreads description:

I was totally satisfied with the ending of this series.  I really liked how it was wrapped up.  I will say though that the book kind of drags in the middle.  We read about the characters walking and walking and walking some more.  That part did get a little boring.  In Infinite we get to learn way more about the dragons, slyph, and phoenix. This is one of those books that I really wanted an ARC of .. but alas I had to wait for my library to get the book.

There were a few parts in this book that made me scratch my head.  Like humans had some type of fallout and then years after that was all over mythical creatures were born and living in our world.  With no explanation as to why that happened??   One of the biggest positives for this book is no love triangle!  Though since Ana is a new soul and Sam falls for her after he has been reincarnated over and over again.  It is odd that these people (1 million of them) come back in the next life and love someone else.  Honestly I love the notion though of being reincarnated and having friends and talents that you get to use in every lifetime.  I was a little sad to learn that (spoiler) there will be no more reincarnation (end spoiler).

This is a great series and I am sad to see it go.  Jodi Meadows has done a great job with a YA series.  Making the good guy win (instead of the bad boy), making romance real, even realistic sex that isn't over the top. I do think that this was a wonderful ending to a trilogy!

Follow Me Friday - Avoid this book!

 

This is the day of the week where we get to know each other better by answering a question devised by our lovely hostesses Parajunkee & Alisoncanread.  GFC will eventually go away (thanks Google) so Bloglovin is a great way to follow me!  And now for this week's question....

Q. Tell us about a book you didn't like and why we shouldn't read it.

A. Wow.. I have never told someone they shouldn't read a book before. I figure that if you want to read a book go for it.  But.. let me think.   I would say Fifty Shades of Grey but that is probably going to be on quite a few lists.  So I am going to say The Book of JEZEBEL.  I saw this book was coming out and I thought it was going to be good.  For those that don't know about JEZEBEL it is a website about gossip, fashion, and all that jazz. I do recommend going to their website.  Sometimes I go to that site so I thought this book was going to be good.  NO.  It was boring and a DNF for me so I never even bothered reviewing it.   I think this books is too snarky and just wasn't funny to me. I can find more information on the internet about the topics then I can in this book.  Seriously, avoid this book.

Comic Adventures Issue #8

I read a lot of comics and rarely review them here on the blog. That's because I really don't have a lot to say for an entire post.  So I thought I would review several comics on one post.  I will still review graphic novels on their own now and then, but this is where I will talk about super-hero type comics (DC/Marvel) or sequels to some that I have already reviewed.

This issue I am going to talk about Chi's Home Sweet Home Volume 1 by Kanata Konami,  Dark Tower The Gunslinger: Last Shots Marvel,  Batgirl Volume 3 Death of the Family, and Suicide Squad Vol 1 DC.

Chi's Home Sweet Home looked cute to me so I picked it up.  I had read some reviews on It's All Comic To Me so I thought hey why not.  I suppose this is an Manga book, which I don't read too many of that genre.  I thought it was funny, cute, and the art really went with the story.  I won't be continuing though in the series only because .. well for me how much of a day in a cat can a read??  AND I LOVE CATS!  The story is about a kitten who gets lost from her mama and is taken in by a family who falls in love with her.  It is a little funny because they are trying to teach the kitten to pee in a litter box using the word Chi for pee. Eventually the cat ends up coming to the word Chi which then becomes her name.  So technically her name means pee... hilarious in the story. This book was a fast read and if you are looking to just sit down and read something fun this is for you!  4 out of 5

The Dark Tower is a 8 part book series by Stephen King.  The books were adapted into The Dark Tower comic books several years ago.  I bought the original arc but after that I began getting the volumes from the library.  Honestly some of these issues are really good and some are so-so.  They are original stories from the Dark Tower so that does make them fun... the comics aren't just a re-telling. This is the last volume.  I am glad.  For me the series is starting to not be as good anymore.   I do like the story though about Roland's father and how he becomes the man he is.  If you have not read the Dark Tower these comics might not be for you... I feel like as a reader you would be lost.  2 out of 5 




Batgirl Volume 3 is really repeat of 2 other issues I myself have already read.  The Court of Owls and Death of the Family are in this so I really only read the last story in the book.  I myself do love the multistory crossovers.  The last story reveals more about how evil Barbara's brother is James Gordon, JR.  We get to see her really battle it out with him.  I can't really say much though about this graphic novel since really it wasn't new material to me.

Lately I have been into the show Arrow on CW. It is a really great comic book show, and has been introducing some great DC characters into the film world. Recently the show has been adding in the Suicide Squad. I didn't know much about the Suicide Squad before .. but then I thought that sounds interesting and picked up this comic. It is about some criminals who the government uses to do their dirty work.  If the people who are put on the Suicide Squad do what they are supposed to do then time will be taken off their sentence.  The catch is there is a chip with a bomb put in their necks so if they try anything they will be blown up.  This comic is more along the adult side.  The criminals are bad... they kill for fun.  Some of the Suicide Squad includes Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and King Shark plus many more.  I look forward to reading the next volume in this series. 4 out of 5.


Well that's it for comics this time around... can't wait to read what comics come into the library next!!

Top Ten Most Unique Books

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic is Top Ten Most Unique Books.   I decided this week I would do a top ten of the most unique designed books I have read.  Ones that are unique and fun to read as far as the set up goes.

I would love to add more to this list... if you have any neat books please suggest them to me in the comments!

1.  S by JJ Abrams this book is so neat.  You read the main story line, and in the margins is a whole different story line between two people reading the book.  There are also inserts in the book to help your experience be even better.

2. Dragonology  -The Ology books are fun.  The first one Dragonology I love.  You learn all about dragons by feeling their scales, wings and even feel their skin.  It's very creative!

3.   The 39 Clue Series-  This book series is one I picked up because each book in the series is written by a different author.  I thought this was really a neat idea.  So each author picks up the story line where the last author left off.

4.  Tales of Beetle the Bard by JK Rowling Special Edition.  This set is pretty amazing.  I remember when we first ordered it I didn't want to spend the money but it was really in a nice set.  I looked it up tonight and it is now going for $400!!  WOW!

5.  The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket.  This is a neat book. You join the Inspector as he interrogates all the unusual suspects. While reading you listen to the accompanying audio recording featuring Lemony Snicket and the music of Nathaniel Stookey performed by the San Francisco Symphony. Hear for yourself exactly what took place on that fateful, well-orchestrated evening.  Really a unique experience. 

6.  Of course how could I leave out Choose Your Own Adventure books.  I always think these are a neat experience.  You can find them in pretty much any theme.  

7. Where's Waldo.  I love these books.  I have since I was a little girl.  I find them unique to other books (though years later Eye Spy came out.. just not the same).  I love to spend hours staring at the images and seeing what I can find in the pictures! 

8. Star Wars A Pop-up Guide the Galaxy.  I love pop-up books sooooo much. The one that got me interested in them again was this one.  I love that there are even lightsabers that glow in the book.  Pop-ups are a really unique way to get more out of a book.

9. The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown illustrated version is pretty amazing.  I really enjoyed reading both this and Angel's and Demons illustrated versions.  Since there are so many art pieces and historical places mentioned it's nice to actually see what they look like.

10.  Well I am going to make graphic novels/comics the last in my most unique books. I love to read books and look at art at the same time.  AMAZING!

Captain America The Winter Solider - Movie Review

The highly anticipated Captain America sequel did not disappoint!  I was a little leary about it since I didn't really enjoy Thor 2 the Dark World.  I thought that film tried way to hard.  Captain America The Winter Solider on the other hand was exactly what you would want in a sequel! 

For those that follow the blog you know you that I read a lot of comics.. but mainly DC comes.  This isn't because I don't want to read Marvel it's just that I don't know where to begin.  With DC I have been able to start at the new 52.  Since I don't read Marvel that much I didn't know much about the Winter Solider, so it was all a surprise to me. I really enjoyed that!

I think this movie was so well put together that you could go in it, without ever seeing the first Captain America and not be lost at all. The humor was on point, the characters were emotional and made me emotional. This movie is really setting up the huge Marvel universe.  Though this film does make me question what will happen to the TV show SHIELD (which yes I have been watching). It makes me really wish that DC could do this.  But instead we have DC rushing.. changing the Superman sequel from a stand alone Superman movie to an almost full fledged Justice League movie.

This movie is totally up to par with the Avengers. I am really looking forward to the third Captain America. The third Thor on the other hand I can wait for. A+

This week has been a good week.  I have caught up on all the graphic novels that I needed to read.  This week I even tried out Archery.  I've been watching Green Arrow for one thing .. so I have been wanting to give it a go.  Plus I love to try new things!! I also added my instagram button to the blog.

I am actually read a book I own this week.  Cinder by Marissa Meyers.  I am finishing up Infinite by Jodi Meadows.   I have requested Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor from the library so I am hoping they get it soon.
