Matched Review

Just finished this book for my YA Book Club read for May.  I liked it.
Here is the description from goodreads:
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

I thought this book was a good distopia novel.  I really enjoy reading those types of books.  Will I read the next book in the series?  Well Matched was such a fast read that I will read the next books. If it were longer I would skip it. I liked it though. Honestly I see everyone comparing the book to the Giver which I have read but it's been so long I can't remember that book. I didn't think the story really took off until the end of the book. Finally we really got more in depth with the characters and some plot.

This book is missing something though. I don't know what exactly. I think it spent too much time on some plots and not enough time on other plots that needed more attention. I also think the 2nd book will be all about things leading to rebellion and then the 3rd book will be the rebellion. Which is too similar to the Hunger Games for me.  Another thing real similar to a lot of the YA books I read with a love triangle.  After reading this book I give it three kitties!

If you haven't been to the website for the book it is actually neat, check it out here.

  1. Thanks for the review. I've had this one sitting on my bookshelf for a while now but I think I'll give it a go now.

  2. I completely agree with your review. It was a nice read but something was missing. I gave it the same rating. :)

  3. I'm reading this soon!
Then I'll be able to comment a bit more :)

  4. I feel the same way you do- Matched was good, but there are other books in the same genre that are better. The love triangle aspect of this book depressed me, probably because I didn't like Ky.

    Thanks for the review!

  5. Sounds interesting...I haven't read it yet, but I am just so in love with the must be something from childhood about bubbles lol

  6. I definitely think that I will read the other books. I feel like I want to find out what happens!
