Continuing on my epic Harry Potter re-read. I only think I have read this book twice before? Which isn't very much when I swear I have read the first book like ten times. I started re-reading these when I had to sit hours and hours with my dad at the hospital... and knew I need to get it finished. Here is the goodreads description:
The war against Voldemort is not going well; even the Muggle governments are noticing. Ron scans the obituary pages of the Daily Prophet, looking for familiar names. Dumbledore is absent from Hogwarts for long stretches of time, and the Order of the Phoenix has already suffered losses.
And yet, as with all wars, life goes on. Sixth-year students learn to Apparate—and lose a few eyebrows in the process. Teenagers flirt and fight and fall in love. Classes are never straightforward, though Harry receives some extraordinary help from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince.
So it's the home front that takes center stage in the multilayered sixth installment of the story of Harry Potter. Here at Hogwarts, Harry will search for the full and complex story of the boy who became Lord Voldemort—and thereby find what may be his only vulnerability.
I like this book a lot. I will admit sometimes though I get confused with what is happening in the book compared to what is happening in the movie. For some reason I thought Moody had already died and then at the end of the book he was at Dumbledore's funeral and I was like .. oh yea next book. I had totally forgotten how Dumbledore dies. Harry gets stupefied... and has to stand there and watch everything go down. And then Bill is bitten by a werewolf.. TOTALLY FORGOT.
I love Luna's commentary on the Quidditch match! I forgot Quidditch was even in this book. The background information in this book is great! I mean .. FINALLY we are getting some information about Voldermort!!
I just love Ron and Lavender. I have a firm believe that everyone should date someone other then the person they marry. Yes it can work if you don't do that. But I think everyone should date someone they realize is NOT the type of person they want to be with. Otherwise you might always think.. hummm.. I wonder what it would've been like.. no you won't do that if you date lots of people.
I also just want to know what exactly happened between Hermione and Victor Krum. I want to know this back story right now!!!
How crazy is Greyback in this book. He is WAY scarier here then in the movie. First we find out he goes out and bites children.. then we see what he does to Bill. In the movie we really don't know how bad he actually is. And it's bad. I really don't understand why Percy is still such a villain in this book. I just think that he really wouldn't have continued acting like that. I just don't. But I am not the author. Perhaps I should write some sort of fan fiction where Percy loves his family and comes home, and doesn't ignore them at funerals and whatnot.
I love Slughorn. He is one of my most favorite professors ever. I just love his style. The actor who plays him is amazing too. I just love how he carries himself. I also think it's sad that Luna and Neville are the only DA members who still are looking at their coins just in case something comes up!! I mean SAD!! The end of this book is just one big sad ride... I can't wait to get started on the final book.
The crystal ball says:
Sun is shinning!!! Great day to go outside and read this book.
Check out the reviews for the other books in my re-read:
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
I love all the awkward moments in this book..it's that age where you just are not quite sure what dating is or how to ask someone out etc.
ReplyDeleteI think so too... even Harry and Ginny technically only date like 3 weeks!!! The most awkward stage!!!
DeleteI hadn't thought of Ron and Lavender from that perspective... interesting point. The balance between dark and light, tragedy and humor is well done in this book, and it really sets up book seven so well.
ReplyDeleteI agree... we really needed this book to get to move onto the next book. I miss the things that happen in school in the next book too. So I am glad that we get to see a lot of things happening in school.
DeleteI keep telling myself I'm going to reread the entire series top to bottom. I only ever read any of them once.
ReplyDeleteThere are just so many books to read that re-reading books sometimes seems like a chore. I had to squeeze these in!!!
DeleteI want to do a re-read of these some day too. I felt so bad for Hermoine in this book Ron was not at his best :)
ReplyDeleteoh Ron.....
DeleteThis is totally my fav book in the series. I love the Ron and Lavender parts too.
ReplyDeleteme too... it is young love at it's best!
DeleteThis isn't one of my favorite books in the series although I liked it. I do love Luna's commentary and Ron's makeout-city romance with Lavender though.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many little things the movie leaves out from this book. Glad I am re-reading it and can remember all those moments!
