Originally I wasn't going to do this.. but I love my library so much I thought I would post about it. So I am glad the Book Monsters are hosting this event for the summer. They have a lot lined up so I'll be keeping my eyes out for what else is going on. For those that follow my blog you know that I get everything from the library. Books, movies, video games, you name it. I use it so much. I really think you all should take the time to go and walk through your library. Bring a book with you and just sit there for a while... it just feels great.
Library Survey
1. What’s the name of your library and how close is it to where you live? My library is the Pikes Peak Library District. I love it... there are several branches here in my area. I got to one about 5 miles from my house. They are actually building a brand new huge facility that opens up this next week, it's called Library 21C. Which I think it kind of an awful name... but hey whatever. I do wish too that they had an architect come in and design a neat look for the building... I love libraries that do that.
2. How frequently do you go to the library? Once a week. I go every Monday to drop off and pick up.
3. What is the first section you normally go to when you get to the library? The holds. Since I know exactly what I want I just go online and put holds on everything and then pick up. I never actually look around for something to read.
4. Share a link to your library’s webpage. How often do you use it and what for? Pikes Peak Library District I use it almost daily. I use it to see what has come in on my holds... I use it to renew my books. I use it to check out ebooks, eaudios. My library also has apps to read and check out magazines and comics right on your tablet. It is soooo amazing.
5. Does your library have a summer reading program for your age group? Do you participate and why or why not? There is a library reading program for adults at my library. The teen program is in the summer though. I did participate in the program once. It was fun .. but I haven't participated in a long time now. It's only because the prizes are kind of the same each time (a coffee cup, a bag) and I just don't need that many coffee cups. So I don't participate anymore. It is a wonderful program though I do recommend participating.
6. What is one thing you can think of that would make your library better? Honestly I don't know... it really is a wonderful facility. They always order what I request.. they have video games... magazines... I mean really it is a fabulous place.
7. Does your library have a self checkout station and do you use it more than the circulation clerks? My library pretty much only has a self checkout. They try to make you use it and only get in line if you need something specific from the clerk. Even if I have a special order they make me take the rest of my books over to self check out. Sometimes it's a little annoying. I have been to a bigger branch and they have both clerks and self check out.
8. What programs have you attended or thought of attending at your library? I haven't actually attended any programs. Most of them are just not something I am interested in. Learning computers or learning to speak English or learning to read. Just not resources that I need. I have seen a few book clubs that some of the branches have but haven't worked up the courage to go.
9. Do you have family that utilizes the library with you? Who is your “library buddy”? My husband uses the library too... we usually just use my account and I pick up both our books together.
10. What is the best thing about your library? I just love that it is free. If it weren't for the library I wouldn't be able to read all the books that I do. It is a great part of the community and a wonderful resource that I don't think enough people take advantage of.
What about you?? Do you use your library?? What about it do you love?
Wonderful that you decided to join Angela. That is great that you are able to set up a system that works for you to go to the library each monday that way you have some to bring back and some to check out. It is a never ending cycle. I always have lots of books checked out from the library. I'm at a record right now with 10.
ReplyDeleteI love going to the library. In the Netherlands I usually went two or three times a month. And even though the collection was pretty old, I still liked to browse around there. :) Good luck with the challenge. :)
ReplyDeleteI constantly use the library mostly because my husband works at one so he picks up books for me all the time only complaint is you have to wait so long for the new releases due to demand!
ReplyDeleteI am so dependent on my Monday library schedule that when it gets switched up I am like... aye!! When is it due back again??? lol!! I really love to spread the message about libraries so I had to join in.
ReplyDeleteI love to look around the library. I will usually browse for audiobooks on trips. My books are already picked out though so I never look through the books.
ReplyDeleteMy husband used to work at mine too, now he only substitutes so I have to go and pick the books up on my own. BOO!
ReplyDeleteI love the library. I work at one of my local libraries, so I often check out books when I'm working. makes things easier! lol My libraries have some fun programs - I wish they had more variety at yours!

How fun that you work at your library. My library MAY have fun programs and I just don't know about them. I admit I haven't really gone and searched for them. Maybe I will tonight!
ReplyDeleteWow, awesome!! I honestly need to start using the library more!! The only library thing I do is visit the Friends of the Library Used Bookstore to make donations or buy used books to help support the library... I've heard of book club groups and a local playhouse use to have book club meet-ups to discuss the plays that were being performed that season.... I always wanted to attend one of these events, but never found the time. Now that my hubby and I have moved to Northern California, I'll have start using the library now once we move into our new place on July 1st.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that they did that for the plays that season! I know what you mean about never finding the time. It happens to all of us. We just know we will find the time next week. Such a great idea to go to your library when you move.. maybe if you start going as soon as you move there, you will continue to use it down the road.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. I think I'll do this for a post. I love my library and would love to brag about it.
ReplyDeleteI do use my library, but probably not as frequently as I should. I borrow books that I don't want to buy series to, buy first books in series if I have a netgalley to review, to rent movies, or to see what audio books they have in! It's really cool, the facility is nice, and the people who work there are always friendly. The only other time I go, is when they have their library book sales...those are AWESOME!

I love reading through all of these answers to the survey. Seems like you're a pretty avid library user, which is awesome. I dip off from time to time. I also work at a school library so I check out some of my MG reads from there. I remember when I worked at the public library and we got a self check out machine and it took us a while to get patrons to use it. A lot of the time we just walked them over there and helped them. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! I love my library both the actual Library and the digital titles I can check out. We try to go every other week but that has been tough.
ReplyDeleteShould be able to make that a regular thing soon though. Loved this post.
Today I went to that brand new library I mentioned above. They don't even have clerks near the self check outs. They really just want everyone to use them. I loved the new library though.. they have an amazing video game section which really impressed me. People just don't know what their libraries have.
ReplyDeleteI love the digital part of my library too. I like how I just sit in my chair .. think of a book I might want to read and log on and check it out without ever leaving my house!
ReplyDeleteMine actually hasn't had a library sale in a while!! Which really surprises me. I keep going to their website looking for the next one and no date has been listed!! I have only been to one before and I kind of screwed that one up. I didn't bring cash and I went on a day when it was like $5 for a huge paper bag full of books. So it was a mad house in there and I couldn't get to any of the tables.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm glad you finally decided to join the library! I used to always go (my library rocked because they were pretty good at getting the new releases in quickly) but i just kept forgetting to bring my books back since i didn't have a good system (like you do) so the fee's i had to pay were outrageous!
ReplyDeleteThe fees at my library are pretty small. You could keep the book for a month and only owe like $2!!! Pretty nice.
