Sunday Post
Let's chat about what's going on this week... on my blog.. on other blogs... on the internet... and just everywhere! I link up my post to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Reader and Stacking the Shelves.
It's been another busy week with family. My dad came to see me and then I came back to Utah with him to visit my parents. It's been a great trip. My mom took the week off so we have been doing some tourist type adventures. We did get to tour one of the LDS Temple's in Ogden UT. That might not sound like a big deal but in UT it is. I am not LDS so I would never be allowed in a Temple normally. There is a new one being built so it hasn't been blessed yet so the public is allowed to take tours. The building was beautiful and I loved seeing inside. I just love to see new things.
On the blog:
-This is still Utah Book Month so in the last two weeks I have covered two Utah authors! Kristen Chandler is my first one and the second is Natalie Whipple.
-I review the classic children's book The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
-I review Beauty Queens by Libba Bray ...how many lessons do we need from this book?
-Project Disney- Make Mine Music this is one that a lot of people don't remember or have never even seen!
-MWF seeking BFF by Rachel Bertsche-Review this is a great book about making friends after you are done with school and all those easy ways to make friends. Loved it!
- A new Comic Adventures Issue .. I talk about Catwoman, Flash, Saga, and Forever Evil (DC).
In the blogospere:
-Do you like book series in one binding (by These Paper Hearts)
- The word bookporn is used all the time, are you offended by that term?? By WordRevel
- I am obsessed with book maps and so are the girls over at Oh the Books.
-Bloggiesta is coming up. This time it's the big one and not the mini-one. It's September 18th to 21st and they’re looking for challenge hosts.
-Bookish Things I wish I had more time for by Deadly Darlings. I totally feel the same way they do!
-R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril IX is coming!! If you guys don't know about this readathon you must go and find out. It's for Halloween and it is super fun. I love it! There is a great spooky read along every year too.
Internet:
This is so fun! Poe on a vlog.... need I say more??
Books Books Books:
No new books this week from the library. I returned them all since I am on a trip. I am catching up on some graphic novels that I have ARCs of and I am also reading a book that was given to me by an author that my mom works with. So it was independently published. I don't normally read books like that but the first one of his was pretty good so I was happy to get the second one.

The temples in Utah are beautiful. Especially the one downtown Salt Lake City. I wish I could've taken some pictures inside too. I feel quite lucky that I got to go in.
ReplyDeleteGoing through the temple must have been interesting and the picture is wonderful, did you take it?
ReplyDeleteI liked your review for The Wind in the Willows. It is a book I never read as a kid but have always wondered about.
Have a great weekend!
I did take that picture!! The building was so white and the sky so blue that day. It's like a professional picture.
ReplyDeleteChurchs are always built so beautifully. I have a catholic church by my house that is just breath taking. The stain glass and all the carvings they just made them so nice.
ReplyDeleteOk RIP IX is a read-a-thon? I need to look into it. That looks very interesting.
I also got no book this week!
Have a great week and Happy reading!
That's interesting about the LDS. Looks like quite the place.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of doing RIP IX this year, sounds like fun and I love reading scary stuff this time of year. Bring on fall! :)
Thank you for posting the Book Porn post. Super informative! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting about not being able to visit once it's been blessed. That's so foreign to me since our churches are open to anyone any time.
ReplyDeleteThe Poe vlog really made me laugh, thanks ! For a new building, the temple's architecture is beautiful. Modern architecture around here can be... weird. You'd think the architects spent their nights drinking before drawing up plans ! It's great that you got to spend time with your parents in beautiful Utah. Have a great week ;)
ReplyDeleteWell at least you didn't add to the TBR mountain! Hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS
Have a GREAT day!

The pic is beautiful! Hope you have a great week.

That's awesome you where able to see the Temple. I am not a religious person, but I do enjoy seeing churches and temples. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting to be able to go into a temple. I've never been able to go into one since I'm not LDS but I've always been curious. I've got your Disney Project saved to read later this week. I've definitely never come across that though I did get Mr. Toad and Ichabod from the library! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteRIP IX is a readathon sort of. You pick what you want to do so there are several different options. It is really kind of neat and has been going on for quite some time now. I really want to do my best at it this year.
ReplyDeleteRIP IX is neat!! I am glad to be spreading the word about it for those who haven't discovered it before. Really I just love the "options" and levels. I am not sure which one I am going to do this year though.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was an interesting post too. I had never thought of the work "Book Porn" in the way the blog post presents it. I don't usually use that term but I thought it was a little said about the statistic that it has more hastags then any other bookish term.
ReplyDeleteIt was foreign to me too.. before I moved to UT. I remember being invited to someone's wedding but NOT being allowed to attend the wedding only the reception. That was crazy to me! Now since I have lived in UT and know people in UT it's not so surprising anymore.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few temples around UT that look similar to this one. They just built a new one in Brigham City that looks similar though I have only been able to drive past that one on the way to fishing. Utah temples are beautiful. They are different then the churches that Mormons attend on Sunday. Temples are used mainly for ceremonial things not for Sunday Church (at least I think this is right).
ReplyDeleteLOL... no TBR mountain. That's true!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI love to see churches and temples that have amazing architecture. I am Catholic but that doesn't stop me from loving different buildings. One thing that was a little neat was before the tour some LDS members told us what the temple means to them. I loved to hear how it makes those people feel. If any space whether it be a park/church/house makes someone feel good then that place is amazing no matter what it is.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great picture and they do have some beautiful temples. I've never been inside one so that is a nice experience to have. I've been looking for Halloween events so I'll check out RIP. Thanks and have a great week =)
ReplyDeleteYeah... so glad you are saving this Project Disney. You can easily find the whole film online so google it and watch it there. It is tough to find on DVD since it hasn't been released on video for a long time.
ReplyDeleteHalloween events are so fun. I am obsessed with Halloween! I love it so much I have thought about doing something here on this blog but then.. there are already so many events going on I just join up with those.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time away....and how great to get to see some beautiful places.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am looking forward to Bloggiesta. Since I have so many blogs, I pick out a different one each time to work on.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Bloggiesta is so great! Though to be honest I don't know what I am going to work on this time around. I am going to have to look at other blogger's lists to get ideas. Maybe I will work on getting ahead on reviews and posts. That would be nice.
ReplyDeleteWow! That temple is beautiful. Seems like it would be a lot of fun to go to.
ReplyDeleteSarah @Vampire (and Other Paranormal Things) Queen
My friend has family that lives in Ogden. They are LDS.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post on Make Mine Music. I really should get a copy of that one. The nieces and nephews are at age where shorts are good and music is fun! Have a good week.
Yay for touristy adventures, definitely love those ;) And thanks for sharing the links in In the blogosphere, will have to check out a few! Hope you have an awesome week (:
ReplyDeleteOh it looks lovely from the outside. That's cool you're able to currently tour it!

Sounds like you had a great time! I'm going to check out the post about book p*rn - I use the phrase myself; it's the title of one of my Pinterest boards.
ReplyDeleteI hope you've had a good week - sorry it took me so long to stop by!
I love book maps as well and that's what I miss sometimes on the Kindle. It's just not the same I think.... :(
ReplyDeleteAnd what a beautiful picture.
It is fine that it took you a while to stop by. My life has been very busy and so I have had to put blogging to the side this week. But I will be able to jump back in next week.
ReplyDeleteI agree. There just isn't the same illustrations on the Kindle.
