The final Top Ten Tuesday of 2014! The week's is all about what we want to do in 2015. I thought 2014 was great on the blog. I did fall a little behind on reviews at the end of the year... but hopefully that will pick back up here soon. The blog got a new look this year.. for those who have been following me for a while would've noticed the great make over! I got to mess around and make all kinds of new buttons and such for the blog. After four years of blogging I am still having a lot of fun. I love finding about new books and new blogs. So now for my blogging/reading goals:
Books
1. Finish series I have started! I have a few series that I have read and then final books came out this year in 2014 and I haven't finished them yet..... I really need to finish it. In fact.. I should make a list of them so I know for sure which ones need to be read.
2. Make a vlog??? I always throw around this idea.. I don't know. I am just not a camera person. But I do have a new bookcase and it would be fun to make a vlog in front of it. I always hesitate because I have to put on make up and do my hair. BOO.
3. Get some more classics read this year. I didn't read any in 2014! At least.. I don't think I did. I can't even remember!! So I would like to read a couple of them this year.
4. Keep reading the books I own. I just really started doing this in September of this year and it is really making me happy. I was reading only library books and so never actually read some of the books I owned that I clearly wanted to read (I mean I did buy them).
5. Start reading with my goodreads book clubs again. I run two groups on goodreads. One I would read with every month and I stopped reading along with it in September and I miss discussing books on there. Not that a lot of people participated but it was just fun if someone did read along.
Blog
1. Figure out something to do for a feature. For those of you who have followed this blog you probably know about my Project Disney feature. This is where I watch a Disney movie and read the book that the movie is based off of. I am really close to the end. In fact... I might actually be done with the movies in the Disney Canon. I have a few more that I want to do but they will probably be finished before March. I was thinking of reading the Sherlock stories and then watch the Sherlock show (BBC) that goes with the story. We'll see.
2. Design a new rating system. I have been wanting to this but just haven't yet. I am a little sick of the crystal balls and would like to make something that matches the Alice in Wonderland theme.
3. Netgalley percent up to 80%. I have had this goal forever!! I don't know what in the world is keeping me from 80%. ERRRRRR
4. Get ahead on posting. There are only a few times where I have actually been ahead on blogging. Normally I sit down at night, watch TV and type up blog posts (like I am right now). I would like to be able to just take a day, sit down type up a bunch of posts and be ahead for a week. Of course.. then technically I am not ahead because they I am typing up posts for the week after that....
5. Plan another bookish monthly event. I think I will do a Star Wars month but that won't be until next December when the movie comes out. So it won't be for a while.. I suppose I could start planning for it now.
Well.... hopefully I get to a lot of these goals this year. My personal goal is to take better care of myself. I have been taking vitamins, going to the gym, putting on wrinkle cream, and getting my hair done. Lots of personal attention in 2015! What about you???
Awesome, ambitious goals! I hope you do decide to vlog!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great goals. I have something similar in mind to most of those myself, except the vblog. Never in a billions years for me, but if you really want to do one, then I hope you get the chance.
ReplyDeleteDreams @ Once Upon A Dream Books
EEK! I don't know... I might hit you up for some make-up tips. ;)
ReplyDelete...and for the record, that little alice avi pic is the cutest ever!
ReplyDeleteI think the vlog is just something new and different. After blogging for so many years you just want something fun to do and that might just be it. Of course I've been saying that for a few years now.
ReplyDeleteNice goals for 2015!! Here's my link to my TTT for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2014/12/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten.html
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Can't wait to follow your adventures in 2015! :)
ReplyDeleteI would really really LOVE to get ahead on posting but it's a struggle. As you say I feel like I would need to devote at least every other weekend to writing blog posts and reviews. I ain't a very quick writer! Keeping up with series is also a good goal. I made a next-in-series shelf in good reads so I can remember where the heck I am in the billions of series I read:).
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! I'm just rotten at features, because I can never seem to stick with them. They seem "oh, shiny, new, fun!" when I think of them, but then the mystique evaporates. Would love to see a vlog from you!
ReplyDeleteGreat list Angela! I hope you achieve these goals. I managed to get my NetGalley ratio to 80% but I had to focus a month on just NetGalley reads! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to whatever new feature you create, because I love your Disney one. I love personalized ratings systems too. I wish I could think of one. lol
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your book goals 1 and 4, but hope they'll all work out for you ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! Good luck with them all :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful goals, Angie! I'd love to see you do the Sherlock feature the way you did your Disney feature. And the NetGalley percentage, boy, that's a bugaboo for me, too. I didn't put it down as one of my goals, but I should have!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some great goals. I tried to read more of the books I own this past year too, so I want to keep that up. I've been using the library a lot too, which is great, but my whole house is basically a library of things I need to read. LOL I want to read more of the actual Sherlock Holmes stories, so the new feature idea would be cool. the BBC show is great!

I'm so scare of vlogging. I like being the man behind the curtain, lol. I'm not sure I'll ever do a vlog. Good luck with yours if you do any next year!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm new here but I like the look of things. You have some great goals! Good luck with them all.
ReplyDeleteStar wars month- great idea! I think 2015 will be awesome for sci fi with the new SW movie coming out- plus avengers and other good stuff too I'm sure. I'm thinking of doing a Fantasy February type thing just because I kinda slacked off on in 2014- want to read more.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy New Year!
A vlog?! I am so nervous about being in front of the camera - it would be fun to see you do it!

We'll see if I do any of these goals. One year I really need to set up some goals and stick to them. It might feel good to accomplish them.
ReplyDeleteThis year I might actually check into these goals midway through. I have seen other bloggers do that and that seems to help them stay on track.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you combine two of your goals and make your feature about classics. You could read the book, watch the movie or the adaptation, etc. In exactly the same way you do your Disney feature. I think that would be really interesting.
ReplyDeleteAnd urge series, I'm in the middle of so many I'm afraid to count them. I should have made a goal not to start any more in 2015.
I admire all of you who manage to continue posting :) great goals and also quiet achievable I think.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't read ANY classics? Wouldn't some of the books you read for Project Disney classify as classics?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could do smiles--more and more teeth showing--for your new rating system. You know...the Cheshire cat's grin?
Have a wonderful 2015, Angela. It's been a pleasure following your blog.

I don't really have any concrete goals other than to have fun and just do what I want to do (read what I want to read) but good luck!! I'm looking forward to see you on Youtube :)
ReplyDeleteI joined Series Ender challenge as I too have some book series/trilogies I need to wrap up. Good luck on your goals. I am back from my break and excited for the year ahead. I hope your holidays were lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad someone else feels this way. I feel like if I got ahead the I would be scrambling to stay ahead. I like the way I am doing it right now. Just blogging when I have the time. Though I will admit it would feel good to have some posts that got me ahead. I am really going to read some series for sure!!!!!! I am like die hard to do that.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty good with keeping up with features from other blogs. I have a lot of fun with those. But I would like to think of and host my own. Just don't know what to do... though I am sure every other book blogger out there is thinking the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the Sherlock idea. That sounds awesome and I've been kind of wondering how all the different versions compare. Good luck with your goals though I can't promise not to hate you if you hit 80% on NetGalley!
ReplyDeleteGreat new goals Angela, I like the one about reading books that you own, that is one of my goals too. I usually schedule all my posts ahead on the weekend, so I don't have to think of posts at night when I am tired from work. It works well for me and frees up time during the week to do other stuff!
ReplyDeleteI haven't requested anything from Netgally in a while now which is what hasn't helped me move my score up. One thing that helps with my scores is reading comics. Since they are short books it makes it easy to move my score up some!
ReplyDeleteLOL... I can't get the damn graphics I picked for the new rating system to line up correctly. Ughhhh... sometimes I just get so annoyed. Graphics go where I tell you to go!!!! Hope to fix it up soon. Well... maybe tomorrow. I have been catching up on TV instead of working on the blog.
ReplyDeleteMe too!! I always have fun making goals... not that I ever meet those goals.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. You have some great goals hear and I think you should try for all of them. Personally I love the original Sherlock Holmes books and the new BBC series. I kind of wish I would have thought to do this feature myself. I don't have the time to re-read all of those so I will anxiously wait to see if you do decide to do this feature.
ReplyDeleteThat is an extremely smart written article. I will be sure to bookmark it and return to learn extra of your useful information. Thank you for the post. I will certainly return.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I plan to try out my first vlog this weekend. Who know what I will look like or sound like... but it will be an adventure and that is what is fun about it.
ReplyDeleteI am totally going to do the Sherlock feature similar to the Disney one. I think it's going to be a blast. I tried to read a Sherlock book one time but didn't really give it my best effort and then never went back to try to read it again. So I look forward to getting into those books.
ReplyDeleteI am really going to just read the books I own. The only other books I will read will be for Project Disney. Once I finish all the books I own then I will devour the library again. Oh ... and I will read comics checked out from the library since I don't want to buy all those. Should be a fun!
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I have with vlogging is that I would have to get ready for it. Like put on make-up do my hair. I can't have the world seeing me like I just got out of bed or something. LOL!! So the times when I would do one would be right before I go out or something. Getting ready is so time consuming. Ughhh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!! It's always fun to see someone new around here.
ReplyDeleteStar Wars month here I come! Now I just need to figure out some ideas for it. I'm not really into the Star Wars books (like the ones that are stories about the characters). So I'll have to do more of the goofy books. Which is fine by me of course. I love those types of books. Like the Shakespeare Star Wars books!
ReplyDeleteI am not too nervous about being in front of the camera at my own house. Since it's just me in the room. If it was a like a TV crew or something then I would probably be way nervous!
ReplyDeleteI love classics. So adding them into my reads is fun for me. I like to find an old gem. I am really going to push these books out though. Speaking of classics... I just put together some new bookshelves and realized I have four copies of Pride and Prejudice. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI am really trying to not start any new series until the series I am reading are finished. Though.. when I think about it.... I didn't get Throne of Glass for Christmas... so um... yeah that goal is already gone. oops.
ReplyDeleteContinue posting... lol... yeah right. Sometimes it's a struggle. I am reading some really long books so the problem with that is that I don't have a lot of book reviews to write up so I am constantly trying to find other things to talk about on the blog. Blogging is work!
ReplyDeleteOh I suppose the Disney books do count. Though... I can't remember which Project Disneys I did last year! LOLOL! I would have to go back and look. I have another one coming up that I need to get posted soon. I suppose since it's for Project Disney I forget about those books! So glad we are blogging buddies!
ReplyDeleteIn all honestly I didn't have any goals for the new year myself until I started writing up this Top Ten Tuesday. I hadn't thought of any. I have been so busy with the holidays that I just wasn't totally blogging. I was half blogging. LOL... but today is a full day of blogging I have promised myself. Well... we'll see. But I plan on writing up some posts, commenting and visiting blogs!
ReplyDeleteI don't really like my voice. When I am talking to someone it's fine. But when I hear it on a tape recorder or something I am like "what the hell!!" Everyone always says I sound high. Really??? That's what I sound like. Ugh. But whatever, I am who I am and that's that. Speaking of books I own. I recently put up some new bookcases and though that for sure I would have more room ... I filled them up already. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that there was a Series Ender challenge out there. I am going to hope over to your blog to find it and join in. It really is a big goal of mine this year to do that.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people will be into the Sherlock idea because the BBC show is so big now. When I found out each episode was based off a story I knew I wanted to read that story and watch the show that goes with it. Should be fun!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I think taking a day to blog is the way to do it. In fact, that is what I am doing today. Too much do I force blogging in to little time slots each week. This way ... I am able to just focus on this and not 1000 other things.
ReplyDeleteSounds like several people are interested in the Sherlock feature so as soon as Project Disney is over it's off to Project Sherlock. I wonder if the girl who made the banner for Project Disney would make me a Project Sherlock one. I am going to ask her.
ReplyDeleteHey, as a Disney fan, I couldn't forget about those reviews! Glad we are blogging buddies, too.
