Top Ten Tuesday- What I like about Blogging!

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the wonderful blog at The Broke and the Bookish! This week's topic is Top Ten reasons I love being a blogger/reader. I don't always participate in TTT but this seems like a fun topic to me.

These are in no particular order:

1.  I really like interacting with people.  I used to only interact with people who like books on goodreads.  Then I started to see these book blogs and thought I need in on that too.  It's been fun and I have met a lot of new people and discovered a lot of new blogs. Especially this past year.

2.  Building my TBR pile!!  I know have so many books I don't know what to read next.

3.  Learning HTML/CSS.  I did this blog all by myself.  Meaning I went out on the web, talked to other bloggers, and basically just taught myself.  Blogging tips from other people can be found on a tab on my blog.   And it's hard stuff!!  Especially on BLOGGER!

4.  Thinking about discussion posts.  I like these the best and I am sure everyone else would agree.  I just love when an aha moment comes to my mind and other bloggers are just as passionate about the topic as I am.   Of course I hate the moments when I can't think of a discussion post too.. that's no fun.

5.  I love that reading takes me to another world.

6. I love that reading allows me to find similar interests with complete strangers after I finish a book.

7.  Reading a book gets me way more excited about a movie that is based off of said book.  I mean the book is always better right????

8.  I love that on my blog I not only talk about my love of books... but all things GEEK.  Comics, movies, TV and Video Games.

9.  It is never boring... if I am not blogging, I am reading... if not reading I am blogging!! Win Win!

I used a bunch of gifs a but you know see #3 above and you'll know why.  I have seen all the fancy TTT posts where people do beautiful graphics and well... ugh!

  1. Yes, all things geek. I love that the internet embraces the world of uncoolness. I've gotten into so many nerdy things through blogging and felt cooler because of it.

And the abbreviation of TTT always makes me pause and laugh. In another internet forum that I was active in about 10 years ago, TTT meant something very derogatory - so it always takes me a second to register that it means Top Ten Tuesday. Definitely a happier acronym.

  2. LOL!! I didn't ever use TTT before myself. Until maybe the end of last year. I just saw others writing it and then got lazy and started writing it myself.

I think blogging allows "nerds" to unite together and feel welcome in our fandoms!

  3. I'm with ya on 2,3 and 4! I started on blogger and I wanted to make it look cool and yeah..hours spent researching with lots of hair pulling.

OOh nice! Yeah I love getting my geek on when it comes to books!

    Here's my Tuesday post

    Have a GREAT day!

  6. I already knew HTML (and a bit of CSS) but there's always more to learn. It's fun to learn how to do new things with it.

  7. OOOO, that IS fun. Too bad blog tours are required to be top post, but I usually join in with Teaser Tuesday. Hmm... TT (I think it says TP for a minute before going OH. That's a T) and TTT... can they be twins? Lol.

But I gotta agree with 3 (along with all the rest!). I learned most of my HTML/CSS knowledge from tutorials online, guesswork based on what I know (the title tags in the posts on the home page and archives that's on WP? Yush, I was guessing... and taking a HUGE risk of going back to square one), and yep. Formatting them posts offline (no internet at home).

I also taught myself graphics, so I guess that's another perk. ^_^

I'm pretty sure my TBR pile could do some unintentional slaughter as well. I'M SORRY DEAR NEIGHBORS.I DIDN'T MEAN TO. Dx (tell that to the entire complex. Fantabulous. o_o)

I'm currently "stacking ammo" for discussion posts before I start. Most of them aren't really book related. *le sigh...*

I'll admit I've been thinking about adding gaming (now that I can think of quite a few features they HAVEN'T come up with... >:3) but I haven't played Wizard101 for over a year. :p

Love that kitty GIF by the way! It's so adorable.

  8. Ugh , you're so right about HTML/CSS being harder on blogger, have you checked out CodeAcademy? It's some really great exercises on different types of coding.

Learning html/css... yeah that is so true! I knew nothing about those things before I started blogging. Now I'm kind of proud of myself lol great reasons! :)

    Followed your blog yay! :)

  10. Love the Guild! I love interacting with people too. And I love that you can be introverted and shy but still meet all these wonderful bookish people though blogs!

  11. I love that cat GIF. Cracks me up!

  12. Nice list! I definitely like the blogging community. Can't wait to meet fellow bloggers in person. & My goodness... HTML/CSS. I learned some web design years ago in middle school. It seemed so easy back then. Now, I feel like either things changed significantly or I totally forgot everything I learned.

  13. All great reasons to read and blog! I feel the same!

  14. haha I LOVE the Sword and the Stone gif! It is all too perfect illustration of the TBR pile!

Thanks for stoppin' by! Have a great week!

  15. I love being able to talk about the many things I love and have people respond back. Blogging has widened my "world" in so many ways. I don't really know much about HTML and the like, but I have to do some for a class I'm currently in. EEK! I hope it's not too terrible. lol

  16. Those are really awesome points! I totally agree with you :D

    My Top Ten this week!

  17. All things nerdy unite! Love your post :) and totally agree. Oh that TBR pile tho, sometimes it is stressful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I particularly love #2. My TBR is insane. I actually resorted to letting my husband choose a couple of weeks ago because I couldn't decide!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hair pulling!! I have a post going up tomorrow where my husband ending up doing the coding for it because I wanted falling hearts on that post only and not the whole blog. What a nightmare. Also I tried to change the font for the post to some type of cursive and that didn't work either. AYE!

    ReplyDelete
  20. My TBR pile is soooo huge! It blows my mind... slow down pile.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love the geek side too. There aren't a lot of people in my real life that I can geek out like that with.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Honestly I am learning so much about coding. Though my husband had to do some coding for a post I have going up tomorrow. He had to do it on joomla and then move it over to Blogger. sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great response!! I have been teaching myself more graphics lately. Trying new things out. That is the one area I am lacking in. I have been using Pixlr for it and that is an easy site to use. I like it a lot.

Not having internet at home and making your post offline is impressive. My preview button on blogger doesn't work so I do a lot of my posts without seeing what they are going to look like live. Then sometimes once they go live I have to go back and edit them because they didn't turn out how they were supposed to!

    Thanks for commenting!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I will have to come back tomorrow to see the fancy coding that tripped you up!

    ReplyDelete
  25. No I haven't heard of CodeAcademy!! Thank you for sharing that info with me. I will for sure check that out. I enjoy learning coding. I remember in college I took a C++ class and dropped it after a week. Aye... I was young and didn't want to take the time, just hurrying through college.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am proud of myself too. I noticed that a lot of bloggers have listed that as something they have learned. Most of us are proud of it. I need to start finding some youtube videos to really help me out. I started looking at some html videos last night.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah!! Someone who knows who the Guild is. Do you want to date my Avatar??? ?? ?? :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Me too... I have been saving it for a long time now and just haven't had anywhere to use it so I threw it into this post. All posts become better with cat GIFs!

    ReplyDelete
  29. LOL! Oh yes... web design. It's like the bane of blogging. How fun it will be to meet fellow bloggers in real life. I wish there were more bloggers in my area that would be willing to meet up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I know... it is like magic! POOF another book... POOF another!! Then ten minutes later POOF!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks! Especially never getting bored. I NEVER am bored! In fact.. sometimes blogging can make one feel really busy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks! I thought it was perfect too... first thing that came to my mind when I thought about the TBR pile.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hopefully you can use the HTML you learn in class for your blog!!! That would really be beneficial. I think it has widened my world too, and it's something I am excited about. I look forward to sitting down at night and reading through blogs and looking at blog posts!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know... the TBR pile can be sooo stressful. The worst is when I put too many of my TBR pile on hold at the library and then I get stressed when too many books come in for me to read!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh that is kind of neat! Having your spouse chose. Or just doing one of those TBR jars I have seen bloggers do. They put a piece of paper in a jar with all the names of the books they need to read and then draw names out of the jar. That is the book they have to read. Kind of neat!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've enjoyed learning CSS, which is fairly easy on wordpress. HTML - I can't even. So way to go on learning that!

I like #8 too. When I started, I stuck solely to books, over the last several months I've started to venture out in my topics. It's been a lot of fun.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's fun too... I still don't really like non-fiction. But, by blogging I have learned about some people have suggested and I really did end up liking. Let's Pretend this Never Happened is one of those books. I actually enjoyed it and couldn't believe it.

  38. I love this ttt and seeing everyone's reasons for being a reader and blogger.

    Awesome list <3

  39. Ah. I use Serif and when all else fails, GIMP.

Aww, the preview doesn't work? Bummer! I usually have a few of what it looks like already, but I do make mistakes so when I preview it and it looks wrong, then I change it before it goes live. I don't have time to change it when they go live! Dx

But the preview might not work due to HTML coding or flash. I'm not sure since I don't use flash myself. :3

  40. Thanks for visiting my TTT today! I definitely agree that interacting with other people is extremely fun. HTML and CSS is hard on blogger, but once you learn it you'll be fine! If you ever need help, I'm willing to talk you through something if you want. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have been having the hardest time trying to get some new google font on my blog. I put it in the template but it screwed everything all up. Finally I after a few hours I just gave up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love reading, because it takes me to new worlds too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with all of them. I especially like adding new books to my TBR pile because I learn about some great reads from people that I probably would have a hard time finding otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I really only have spoken to a couple of bloggers in my area. I am currently planning on going to the BEA Book Bloggers Conference. So that should be very exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  45. YES TO ALL OF THESE! The greatest thing about blogging and reading is the people you meet. I have met soo many awesome people due to it and I cannot even imagine life before then.

I want to learn CSS, but it's a totally different language. Lol. I totally forgot on my list that blogging forces me to make graphics, and it usually surprises me when I make good ones because I had no prior experience with Illustrator. It's absolutely great!

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's like watching a movie made by my own mind. So great!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree... I find out about books blogging way more then I ever did on goodreads. I try not to add too many to my TBR pile so I don't feel like it's unattainable, so I really only add the ones that I really know I will get to read soon.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Recently, I made some good graphics and surprised myself. I was like WHA!!!!! It's a little more work on posts and so I really enjoy blogs that do have graphics. You just know they tried harder and are really into their blogging!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ha ha I no longer have a pile.. I now call it TBR mountain ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. That is so cool that doing this blog has taught you to learn coding. I'm very jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well... I don't know about lots of coding LOL! If there is something though I have in mind... like that hears on my instalove post, then I google it and just learn from the examples on the internet. They don't always work but I try my best.

    ReplyDelete
  52. TBR piles are just enormous!! LOL! If you are a reader and don't have a big pile then you are just really lucky.

  53. Reviews from a BookwormFebruary 19, 2014 at 3:18 PM

I am never bored either, thanks to the blog I always have something to do! I really need to learn more about HTML and CSS but it really is sooooo hard on blogger and it makes my head hurt! Great picks :) My TTT.

  54. The thing about blogger vs wordpress is that wordpress has a lot of plugins for the things they want (at least I think). We have to code everything. There really aren't any widgets for us to use to on blogger for the look of our blog.

    ReplyDelete
  55. LOL I love that cat GIF. I have always loved it. Cracks me up so much. And that's true about blogging never being boring. It keeps me SO busy. Especially with co-bloggers! Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  56. HA I love the cat GIF too. I just didn't have anywhere to use it so I threw it in this post to give people a chuckle. I mean... where were all those cats going anyways???? LOL!
