I was so excited when I heard that another adaptation was being made.  I love the story of OZ though I haven't read the book (I've been on hold at the library for it).  I am a big movie buff and have noticed that the reviews have been all over the place.  People like it or they don't.  Personally I thought it was great... the CGI was really good.  Of course I went to the IMAX (not the fake IMAX) and in 3D (I also think this movie needs to be seen in 3D).

I think one complaint about the movie is the humor.  I thought the humor was hilarious, but it is the type of humor I find funny. James Franco was perfect in as the wizard. Johny Deep and Robert Downy Jr were in talks to actually play OZ.. interesting how that would've changed the movie.  I thought the story was a good story about how the wizard ends up in OZ in the first place.  I was very nervous about this movie since Sam Raimi totally destroyed Spider Man 3.

I am not sure about kids going to this movie.. parents will have to decide this themselves.  There were a lot of scary moments where you jump when a monster pops out on the screen. This movie is not as sweet as The Wonderful Wizard of OZ where there is a lot of character development.  But those movies don't seem to be the blockbusters people are running out to see anymore.

I would say see this movie if you can get past it not being like the original movie.  And this one needs to be seen in 3D.. it was made for it!

  1. When I watched the trailer on tv, at the end it says that "some scenes may not be suitable for some children."

I'm supposed to go watch it today... If I can drag myself out of the house.

  3. So far you are the first person I've heard from that liked James Franco in this. I think I'll see it, but will wait until it's at the discount theater.

  4. Great review! I watched it yesterday and would give it a solid 7.5/10. I felt it was a bit rushed and needed some more time for me to care about characters, especially Theodora's transformation - it was too quick for me. But I really enjoyed it. I loved Michelle Williams portrayal of Gilda, it was a nice blend of innocence and inner strenght. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Especially China Doll!

    1. I agree about the character development. I don't know if that was because there were too many? China doll was awkward to me at first.. and then I was like.. I'm in Love!!!

  5. I just saw Oz in 3D yesterday. I actually didn't like it that much. My main problem with that there wasn't enough character development. Also, I hated how they made Theodora all clingy after dancing with the wizard and kissing him once. I mean, she knew him for one day, and then they have be this stereotypical woman who is all clingy and stuff. I did not like that at all! Oh and then she freaks out when he breaks her heart. I don't know, I guess I just didn't like they the women were portrayed. Not a fan.

I did love the China Doll, though. I thought she was the best part of the movie.

    1. humm... good point about Theodora and I thought that was odd too. I thought at first she just loved him like that because she had never really met any other men. I was also surprised how fast she believed her sister that Oz was dancing with her and gave her that music box.
