Godzilla- Movie Review

Oh Godzilla.... why!!   I wasn't going to write a review about Godzilla but my fellow movie blogger Whoa This is Heavy inspired me to do so. This movie... I had such high hopes from it from the trailer.  I spent $15 to see this in IMAX.  $15!!  I was sooo bored.   This movie spends way too much time on story.  Last I checked this movie was Godzilla.. GODZILLA.  We want to see monsters.  Unfortunately this movie doesn't actually show monsters till the end of the film.  I should've heeded some guy's warning who came flying out of the theater from the showing before mine telling us all it sucked so bad.  He put his 3D glasses in the bin and left, before the film was finished.  Mind you I didn't think it was so bad that I would skip the ending.

The CGI in the film is of course great.  Godzilla looked scary and huge.  He was pretty amazing.  After reading other reviews.. the same thoughts came to my mind at the end of the film that I saw others have.  I kept thinking about Pacific Rim.  What an amazing monster movie that was.  SOOOO great.  So when this film was over I thought.. oh man Pacific Rim was way better then that.  I wish I was watching Pacific Rim....Charlie Hunnam... focus.  I just couldn't help compare the two.

Let's chat about the plot.  Spoilers are coming if you care (which you shouldn't since you know.. boring).  I was confused.  Why did the military want to set off the nuke... then they did set it off... then all of a sudden go back and want to turn it off??? Like within 10 minutes of all those choices??  WHAT!  Then... we watch all these trailers and the most interesting character Brian Cranston gets killed off so fast.  I mean... eh?
Look... this movie is a rental and not even that.  What for it to come on TBS or something next year.
I give this movie a C.

  1. Uhoh. My hubby really wants to see this, he'll be disappointed. Luckily we can't go out to the movies, so he won't see it until it comes out on video anyways. :)

  2. Haha... yeah, it was so boring! My friend at the office said the lack of Godzilla was to create suspense and tension just like what they did in JAWS. I said no way are they even close to being the same! Not even the in the same time zone!

I think with the bomb, (spoilers) they wanted to set it off in the ocean at first. But then the MUTO took it to the city where there were millions of people, so they had to detonate it. Still, lame and confusing excuse for a plot. Give me Pacific Rim any time of the day!

  3. That's awful you spent so much money to see it. I had no interest, so I guess it's good to hear now in case anyone mentions wanting to see it. That's insane Bryan's character dies off so quick!

  4. Wow, a C!?! Like you I thought this would be totally badass from what I've seen in the trailers. I planned on waiting till video anyway but wasn't expecting this. I'm sorry you spent so much on seeing this but really glad for the cautionary warning. Thanks.

  5. Ugh, I'm so disappointed. Although wasn't Pacific Rim excellent?

  6. Yeah... I have read that some people like it. So I guess it's 50/50. Rotten Tomatoes still has good markings on it.

  7. Yeah... just wait for TV. The movie just isn't what a monster movie should be.

  8. Pacific Rim was sooooo good. I just love that movie. It was exactly what I am looking for in a monster/robot movie.

  9. Nooooo I'm going to watch it tomorrow! Somebody told me that it had practically no action. Well, let me change that for "I might go watch it tomorrow" because now I'm not sure anymore.

  10. Aww, I'm bummed you didn't like this more! I loved it.

  11. I don't know what to tell you !! AYE!!!! My husband liked it.. my friend thought it was OK... and I thought it sucked. SOOOOOOO... yeah.. the reviews are all over the board. Usually I go with Rotten Tomatoes and they have the audience at 79%. So you should go with that.

  12. Man... I posted a comment and apparently it didn't save. That always sucks. So... I think I said I loved the monster fights. Those were pretty fun. My husband gave the movie the same grade as you did. But that is the grade I gave Spiderman 2 and I just didn't feel they were on the same level. I think I went in expecting a different movie then I got.

  13. Oh nooooo my hubby and son are itching to see this. They love the old dubbed Godzilla movies and I know they will be crushed.

  14. That is why I put gifs of the old Godzilla... I thought that was a better representation of him!!

  15. Wow. That's not good. I was really looking forward to this one too, and from the trailers had high hopes. I did get a sneaking suspicion though from the promo stuff that they were going to wait a long time to actually reveal him, and your review seems to confirm that. Pisses me off that they do stuff like that... I'll probably still go see it (I can't resist LOL) but will definetly go in with lower expectations now. Too bad they had to screw this up...

Your GIF's by the way brought back memories of seeing those movies as a kid... :)

  16. Whelp, I guess I'm not going to see this! I wasn't too enthused about it anyway, but if it was anything like Pacific Rim I would have made myself watch it! Instead I'll just go watch Pacific Rim again! It's too bad though, they had some great things like an established movie monster and Bryan Cranston (!!) working in their favor!

  17. Yuck! He left before it even ended LOL ok yeah I'm glad that I wasn't even remotely tempted to see this in theater. I'm saving my movie night out away from the Toddler to see Maleficent!

  18. I really thought this movie was going to be ... I don't know... more scientific also. The way they made it sound like they were figuring stuff out. The science mystery stuff only happens in the first half hour of the movie. Then that theme dies with Cranston. Sigh.... yea you should skip this!

  19. Maleficent!!! I will be seeing that in Imax... I mean Jolie is the perfect Maleficent EVER. See how Godzilla is so boring we aren't even talking about it???

  20. Interesting - I guess I've been hearing people comparing it to the 1998 film and so most reviews have been more favourable. That may also be because they thought the '98 version was even worse!

  21. LOL! Oh yes.. the 1998 version is awful. Have you seen the Honest Trailer on youtube for it??? HILARIOUS!

  22. LOLOL!!! We just saw this last week for our anniversary (because there was hardly anything else in the theaters we could both agree on). We both enjoyed it. But it was also at a fancy theater with wine and good food so maybe I was just in a food/wine coma. ;)

  23. HA! "Red red wine you make me feel so fine". My husband really liked it too. He can't wait for the sequel (which of course is in the works).

  24. That's disappointing to hear. When the title character is barely in the movie, then what the heck?? You're right, when you go to a movie like that, you want to see monsters! I think we'll wait to see it.

  25. Ughhh... I tell you I was soooo disappointed. BUT on the other hand a lot of people I talk to really liked it. I don't know... it just didn't work for me.

  26. Just watching it now - director of disaster movies & one of the biggest movie disasters! I see there are many more, goodbye productivity I've got some viewing to do!
