Follow Me Friday - Avoid this book!

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

This is the day of the week where we get to know each other better by answering a question devised by our lovely hostesses Parajunkee & Alisoncanread GFC will eventually go away (thanks Google) so Bloglovin is a great way to follow me!  And now for this week's question....

Q. Tell us about a book you didn't like and why we shouldn't read it.

A. Wow.. I have never told someone they shouldn't read a book before. I figure that if you want to read a book go for it.  But.. let me think.   I would say Fifty Shades of Grey but that is probably going to be on quite a few lists.  So I am going to say The Book of JEZEBEL.  I saw this book was coming out and I thought it was going to be good.  For those that don't know about JEZEBEL it is a website about gossip, fashion, and all that jazz. I do recommend going to their website.  Sometimes I go to that site so I thought this book was going to be good.  NO.  It was boring and a DNF for me so I never even bothered reviewing it.   I think this books is too snarky and just wasn't funny to me. I can find more information on the internet about the topics then I can in this book.  Seriously, avoid this book.

What about you??  What must we avoid????

I am also hosting a reading challenge if you need to catch up on some ARCS!

  1. Hopping through. That's too bad. I don't follow Jezebel regularly but it seems like the kind of thing I'd like.

  2. You know its a good thing this one would never have hit my radar! =)

  3. I go to JEZEBEL's site... but maybe I am just not feminist enough to get the stuff this book is trying to sell.

  4. Jezebel has its moments of lightness, but honestly, it tends to make my eyes roll. :/

Bummer not to like a book you were excited about, though.

  6. Yea.. sometimes I am like ughhh. I don't know what I thought. I guess I thought it was going to be a little more funny then it was. Instead the book came off so judgmental.

  7. I wanted to like it.. I felt like I just wasn't getting what everyone else was getting!

  8. Jessica @ a GREAT readApril 11, 2014 at 5:23 AM

Never heard of this one. Doesn't sound like it would be my kind of read. So definitely avoiding it extra much now.

    Here's my Follow Friday

  9. I haven't even heard of that book so I guess I now know it may not be the best to try with a TBR a mile long. Thanks for stopping by my post earlier. I am a new Bloglovin follower!

  10. I used to visit jezebel quite frequently, but I feel like they've gotten really mean lately. It's hard to justify their articles now.

  11. Sometimes I'm on Jezebel as well, but some of their "feminism" is actually just being snarky! I do think Fifty Shades is on quite a few lists! I'm following you on GFC (Google shouldn't get rid of it!) and Bloglovin' ;)
Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a good weekend!

  13. I've only told my blog readers to flat out avoid a book twice. The last time was Noah's Castle by John Rowe Townsend.

  15. This is new to me, and I'll definitely avoid it! Fifty Shades isn't my cuppa either! I haven't read it and don't plan to either.

Old follower, have a great weekend =)

  16. LOL! I don't know! I wanted to like it. But then I would read it and instead of feeling happy I would be angry. Though Jezebel is looking to get your riled up as a reader.. and that is why I visit their website.

  17. I've found myself wasting time on Jezebel before, but I just don't think I could sit through an entire book! Sorry it was a DNF for you! Thanks for stopping by My FF!

  21. I agree. I recently saw the article on Lena from Girls when her photos were retouched. I mean Jezebel paid a lot of money for those photos. I thought they were sad though. I mean the retouches weren't to make her more thin. They fixed her hair and in one shot fixed her boobs. If I was going to be on the cover of Vogue someone better give me some retouch! http://jezebel.com/here-are-the-unretouched-images-from-lena-dunhams-vogu-1503336657

  22. I have never really told anyone to just not read a book, ever. I'd have to really not like it. One I do think of is Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. But then again people loved it so I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would read Fifty Shades of Grey to just see what you think. I did read it so I could form my own opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can't remember how I heard about it.. maybe from their website?

    ReplyDelete
  25. The one good things is (at least I think this is right) that it wasn't just repeating what is on the website. Too often does books based off websites just repeat what has already been published on their website. Of course I could be wrong and the information might've been pulled straight off the site! LOL!

  26. I am so confused.. snarky.. serious! LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I thought I would like it too.. actually, I thought it was going to read like Let's Just Pretend this Never Happened by the Bloggess. But I was wrong.

  28. I've heard of the website but not the book. I probably won't be reading this one, either. :)

  31. I've never heard of Jezebel -- maybe that's a good thing! It sounds a little odd. As for Fifty Shades of Grey, I've steered clear of it altogether.

    Have a great weekend!

  33. I hated the book. Actually, I think loathed the book would be a better descriptor. Here is the review if you are interested. http://wordsmithonia.blogspot.com/2010/07/noahs-castle-by-john-rowe-townsend.html

  36. I had to read Fifty Shades! LOL! I wanted to know what the hype is about and be able to tell people what I would like/didn't like! So I don't regret reading it I just didn't love it.

  37. OH yes... I can't wait to read this review!

  38. I have actually never even heard of Jezebel, neither the book nor the website. I have never read Fifty, but I sure wouldn't recommend it, either...

  40. Well.. the website isn't bad. Just the book. It was boring and not what I expected at all. It was just fluff really.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Fifty is worth reading to me if you want to be able to have conversations with people about what you liked/didn't like. I read just for that purpose.
