New Look...for now

Well I am kind of sad that I had to change up my template.  I loved my old one but it was ancient in internet terms.  The code was written in 2004 and the developer doesn't work on it anymore.  I had already had a few issues with it but was just holding off.  The preview wasn't working.. comments weren't working so I switched to disqus, and other issues.   Today though my blog was no longer showing titles (blog title, post title).  I tried to get them to show back up but it just didn't work. Soooo I had to find a temporary template for the time being.  So it might look a little funny but I have to go through and tweak it.   I am hopefully going to go a new look made for me soon.  I signed up for someone to make me one so we'll see!!  Let's be honest... messing with template feels like SCIENCE to me!

Good bye old look! I will miss you.

  2. Aww it's too bad needing to change was forced on you, but getting a new layout will be so fun! :) I'm excited to see what you will get!

  3. I am so bummed. I really loved that old one... and it feels like a waste of time getting this one perfect since I will be changing anyways. Oh well... I want to get this one at least readable. It looks like the person who I want to make mine has an opening in June so that is only a month away to keep this one around.

  4. Thanks!! I am kind of excited about it.

  5. Oh it's good that it's only a month! I think this temporary design is nice though - sleek and clean. It doesn't seem to need too many tweaks?

  6. No not really. Just my side bar... I am trying to get linkwithin to just appear when you open the post not on the main blog page. And the social buttons are a pain!!

  7. Hope you find a lovely new layout! I had to switch mine to a random one too...the one I have now. I like it, but I do want to get something a bit more unique in the near future.

  8. I love the new template! <3 I have been contemplating finding a new one, but I can't find one that I love, that doesn't cost a fortune!

  9. I know.. it's a nightmare. I have been looking... and looking. I might be able to fix this one up some. Edit the side bar (it is cluttered now that I only have one). I also want to change the color and the font of my title. Work work work!

  10. Ughh it sucks. The other one was just old and Blogger was updating itself and I think the coding on it wasn't keeping up. I have been looking through Etsy now trying to find something that fits my personality.

  11. I was so surprised to see the sudden change, but I understand both the issues you were having and your sadness at the change. I started my blog out with one of the blogger general templates and when I updated it and went through the whole "lets make a button that's a good idea yes romi it is" thing it was horrifying. I spent around six hours working on just that button, trying to get it to work, and I was mighty frazzled. This isn't incouraging, is it? I'm sorry, Angela, but I know your new design will be GREAT!

  12. that's sad you need to change your template. Your other one had so much personality in it. though I think it could be cool to see what the new one will be - I'm excited to see it :)

  13. Strange that your template would be creating errors like that. I laughed when I saw you're gif! Too funny lol. I shall now consider myself a scientist when I'm working with HTML =D

  14. Aww, sorry that that happened! I can't even imagine how frustrating that must be. The template you have now looks pretty good though! Hopefully you'll find one you like! I can't wait to see it!

  15. Good luck, Angela. I'm trying to build my own template, but it is slow going! I'm hopefully by my 6th month blogoversary, I can roll it out.1

  16. I really need to redo mine but the thought of messing with that frustrates and frightens me. I'm still using a Blogger template and it is just ok. I'd have someone else make it but I just don't want to pay to have this redone. Once I get better at this blogging thing I might give it a try. Can't wait to see what your site looks like when it is finished. Good luck, I did really like your old site look. It seemed to fit you so well.

  17. Crap! I hate when that happens. I totally hear you about the science. It is like performing surgery ...any slip here or there and poof everything is messed up!

  18. I would love to move my blog to Wordpress someday and self host, but it's expensive for me at this time. I'm excited to see what your new layout will look like! Haha, love Finn!

  20. I know... I will get it all fixed up though. It will just take time and work. I was just so used to my other one. I've known I needed a new one for a long time now though and I did have this one waiting in the wings in case of emergency. I have spend hours and hours working on this dumb blog. Both this template and the old one.

  21. I wish I was a little better at HTML I would've just taken my old template and updated what need to be updated to get it to work. I probably won't have my new look up for about a month as I shop around for one.

  22. I can probably get this one looking good. I need to get my title name a little better. I have some ideas in mind... just need to make time this weekend to create it.

  23. 6th blogoversary!! Yes I hope you have it figured out by then! LOL! It is tough though that's for sure.

  24. The one I have up here now is a free one. Really you only need to google free blogger templates and all kinds come up. I think the bottom of this one has the website I got this from. I was thinking about trying my old one again to see if it fixes itself but I thought... you have moved on Angie... go with the flow. LOL Change sucks.

  25. I know... WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. I even went back through and deleted the post I posted the day before the may have screwed things up and it was still the same. Good news is my sister can now comment on my blog from her phone so there is that!

  26. I hear you there! I am trying to find someone who will create a template for someone on blogger and that is a task in itself. Everyone is creating for wordpress.

  27. Sometimes I wish I had made my blog on wordpress instead of blogger, but I couldn't figure it out! I have an account through wordpress and am always worried people think my blog is through there. I just got a new follower the other day though I have no posts.

  28. When I saw your comment to someone else about getting a designer who has a spot open in June, I was like... crap I have a spot open in June but no email from you. I didn't want to assume that you had asked me, which is why I sent those Twitter messages and commented here ;) Sorry about the confusion!

  29. LOL!!! HAHA I didn't want to name "who" it was either!! We were being so secretive. Hilarious!

  30. When I first started blogging I had no idea it was going to become what it is. I looked into it and read that blogger was the easier one of the two for new bloggers. So that is the way I went. I do wish I had went the other way of course. But I also wanted something that was free. Sooo.... I am happy with blogger though. I don't think it's a bad site.

  31. Oh I loved how your blog looked, but I hope you find another great template soon! I thought about moving to WP once or twice too, but I don't really have any issues with blogger and I just like that it's free ;)

  32. Oo good luck! Stinks when things go all wonky but a new look can definitely be fun :)

  33. I did find a designer and will have a new look in June. I am excited and can't wait to see what they create for me.

  34. I know... WONKY. I loved my old look too. I didn't see any other blog like it. But hopefully maybe it was for the best.

  35. I had the same problem not too long ago. My comments weren't working correctly so I contacted Disqus and they told me that it was in my blog design. Once I changed my design a bit, it fixed it. I'm working on new graphics to make it look better though. Hope you're doing well! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  36. The crazy thing is I didn't actually change anything in the template of the blog. So I am not sure why it started screwing up. I also don't know enough about html to find what was causing the problems. I knew something was overwriting the titles but I couldn't figure out what the code was.

  37. Finn will make everything better.

  38. I definitely agree that Blogger is easier, lol. I felt so dumb for not being able to use Wordpress. If I could have figured it out, I would have started blogging back in 2009 or 2010 when my husband first suggested I start one up. I'm happy with Blogger, too. I haven't had too many issues. *knocks on wood* I think the only reason I'd want to move to Wordpress is if I was able to self host.
