Life of a Blogger - Non-Bookish Hobbies

Life of a Blogger is a weekly meme hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat. Each week Jessi chooses a topic (scheduled in advance) that’s not book related so we that we can get to know our fellow bloggers better – and to know more about them than just books. I’m thrilled to join in and I hope to participate every week from here on out. I hope you’ll join in too – check out the details here!

So I've been seeing some people participate in this blog hop and it looks fun.  Especially this week's topic.  Non-Bookish Hobbies.

I love to game sooo much!  I am sure some of you have seen my game reviews on here.  I play all systems.  I have not bought an Xbox One or a PS4 yet.  Honestly there really weren't any launch games that made me run out and spend the money.  I also play board games.  I play Dungeons and Dragons (though I haven't played in a while) and other games like Lords of Water Deep.

That's right.. BIRDS!  I love to go birding.  I am obsessed with it.  I usually try to google good places to go find them.  I did join the local Audubon Society but didn't really love it.  I really don't have the best zoom lense on my camera and all the birds we kept looking at were really far away.  I like it better when I am near water.  Those birds are so much easier to see!  Hopefully soon I'll get better lenses.  Utah is the most amazing place to see birds!

I love football!  I love to go to all sports games (just went to an NHL game), and I love NASCAR (Jeff Gordon is my main man) but Football is my love.  I am a huge Denver Broncos fan.  I just tried to get tickets to the playoffs but those are impossible for the average person to get.  Once all the tickets are sold then it's a scam after that.  The price is outrageous and goes through the roof.  I refuse to pay those prices.  Bummer.  My family played Fantasy Football this year and that was a lot of fun too.  We had everyone on a texting party and talked smack to each other all season!

Ever wonder why you don't see more book reviews on here... or why I can't reach my goal of reading 100 books a year?  Yea this is why.  TV & Movies!  I love love TV.  You should see how much we have on my DVR.  Right now I am watching a TV show (Grimm) while typing this.  Movies... I always going opening night to the big ones... if it's showing in IMAX I am there, and I'll stand in line for hours.

Well that is all for now.. I do have a ton more hobbies (going to broadway/ballet, museums, beauty, fishing, camping, outdoors, cats... blah blah).  What about you?  Be sure to link up your post so I can get to know you better.

  1. I'm with you on the games and TV. I watch tons of TV shows and we just got a Wii U at home, so we're spending a lot of time playing games on it...

I also love to bake, but I don't do it as often as I'd like to because we end up eating a lot if I do LOL

    1. I wish I was a better baker/cook. I really try. I cook every night. I look up recipes on Pinterest try them out and they are just blah. I am just bad at it!! lol!

    2. lol I've tried several recipes that I've seen on Pinterest, and also some on food blogs. Not all of them turned out okay, though... Some of them I saw people posting comments saying they were amazing and we thought they were bland. Lately hubby and I are looking for healthier recipes, as a 2014 resolution.

    3. That is a good idea. Mostly I have heard no cards is way more healthy then anything else. Man... I don't know if I could do that. No chips! Bread! Potatoes! WHAT!

  2. This is a great meme! I might have to join up - if I feel like spilling all my secrets. :D Birding sounds really interesting. I have a couple friends who know birds by their calls, and I think it would be so great to learn that!

    1. A couple of the days I skipped because... well this is the internet after all!! This particular topic seemed fun so I jumped in!

  3. I'm a huge sports fan too - college football mostly. It was great to see more about what you do when you're not online :-)

    1. I like to go to college football games... they are for sure pretty fun. I went to one where there was a streaker! I saw one right before my eyes! It was amazing! They are now a sexual predator in the eyes of the law (bummer for them).

  4. I am a huge NFL fan, been doing picks with family for years and been playing fantasy for 3 seasons. I am also a big crafter (when I find the time).

    1. Yeah for fantasy football!!! This was my second year. It was so fun... my sister was undefeated the whole season and my husband came in during the playoffs and beat her!!!

    2. Its so much fun and even better when family is playing. The first year we played my husband and I ruled the league and played for the championship (unfortunately he beat me by 5 points) so the league manager set it up so it would be very difficult to run things like that again LOL. We have a blast and are so competitive, the draft is a pretty intense thing in our house and has become a spectator sport!

    3. I wish the draft was better for my family. But everyone playing is from all of the US. Some in Philly, some in CO, Some in Utah, and some in TX. I wish Skype/Facetime would let groups of people be on at once. Then it might be more fun.

  5. Haha yes, whenever I haven't read much books in a month, it's probably because I'm caught up in a TV show/movies. I'm also a gamer :D

  6. It is so awesome that you are a birder! Do you keep track of which birds you have spotted?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I do keep track. I have a bird book where I mark them all in. I usually can name birds by look but no by sound. People who can identify birds by sound blow my mind!!

  7. Heh - yeah, we're holding out on getting a PS4 since we have all the games for PS3 we still play. My son's friend got a PS4, but still plays the PS3 because all of his friends are on it.

    *high five* Jeff Gordon! ;)

    1. Yea... there just aren't enough games out on the new systems to me yet. Not enough to buy one. Though I am really excited about getting one... I am getting excited for Halo 5 though!

  8. We love games and movues/tv as well!

  9. Cool that you're a birder! I've only been to hockey games in terms of sports, but I would love to visit the US someday and try out going to a football game. I'm not sure if football is my thing, but the energy in the crowd seems fantastic. :) It's cool to learn more about you.

  10. You have some super awesome hobbies! I'm not nearly that interesting outside of books. ;) Heh. I write? Everything I do is book related!

    1. Writing is good too! I wish I wrote. It's crazy. People who don't read and find out I read always assume I write. I am like Just because I am a reader doesn't mean I write!! I just can't come up with those kinds of ideas!! Good for you.

  11. I love getting to know everyone better. What an excellent idea for a meme - definitely one that I'm going to look at joining some weeks. I have so much fun playing video games, board games and card games...especially with my son. We love Clue most as board game. I tend to get addicted to Harvest Moon, Lego Harry Potter, and I enjoy Zelda as well :)

I think TV and movies definitely have to be a reason that I don't have more reviews posted too LOL. My fav. TV show right now is Once Upon a Time. With your Disney posts though, you can combine two of your loves! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I think this meme is fun too. I might go back and do some old ones. I love Clue soooo much. I had the Harry Potter Clue which is nothing like the regular Clue. We played it and didn't like it. So I sold it on Amazon. Well now they don't make it anymore. So the other day I went on Amazon and looked at it and now it's worth $100!! WHAT!

I love the Lego games sooo much. I have been waiting for my library to get Lego Marvel but they haven't yet. It's on "order" whatever that means. It's been on order for months. I love Once Upon a Time too!!! I like the Wonderland one but don't love it. I think it'll probably get canceled. Can't wait to see your posts if you join up!

    2. I didn't even know about the Harry Potter Clue, but if you didn't like it, I don't know how I'd feel about it since I'm such a fan of the original. I can't believe it's going for $100 now though. Crazy! I've been looking forward to the Lego Marvel game too :D I think Zane will really enjoy playing that one with me.

I'm liking Wonderland too, but I'm with you on being afraid it's going to be cancelled. It's not up to the same level, but it is good.

I've saved the link for the meme in my bookmarks so I can join the post when I have a chance :D

  12. I'm big into football too. (And I love Peyton Manning!) When the Bears lost the Super Bowl several years back, losing to him made it a little better. I just did fantasy for the first time this year, but I don't think it's for me... I'm happier just watching without worrying how every little thing is affecting me personally.

    1. Fantasy Football wasn't for my sister either. We make our league though really really easy. Though next year we might change it up a little and make it a little bit harder since now everyone has experience.

I was never a big Peyton Manning fan till he came over to the Broncos! LOL! Only because he would take us out of the superbowl. But now that he's on my team I love him so much. I am nervous about the playoffs this weekend.

  13. I love how many of us bloggers are into games! :D

I've been birding once! It wasn't for hobby, but for a class I was taking. It was fun, until we got hit with a surprise rain storm. :P

    1. Oh wow! My bird walking experience was ok.. we walked and walked and walked across this huge field that had only like 1 tree. I don't even know where the birds would've been hanging out? In the grass?? It wasn't that great so I am going to just stay to birding by myself.

  14. I'm amazed by how many of us love games. I agree with you about the xbox one and PS4 - just not worth it... yet. I've never gone birding (and did not realize that was a word) but I love nature and it sounds like a lot of fun.

Tv and Movies are definitely fun, but I don't have a lot of time for them either :(

    1. Birding is really fun to me. I have seen so many different types. I think that more people should look around and check birds out!! I plan on going on more birding adventures when the weather warms up.

  15. Computer gaming is another addiction of mine besides blogging and reading. I play MMORPG though but I have to temporarily quit it to focus on reading and blogging. Not to mention that MMORPGs are a money drain. Hahahaha.

It's good to know that you are a nature and bird lover, Angie. I must tell you that I'm not so much into birds since I am more into dogs and reptiles. Hahaha.

And I get you about movies. Nowadays, I find watching TV boring but movies, hell yeah. It's a distraction that I always welcome. I could never get enough of them that sometimes, I have to restrain myself because I could never finish any chores or books when I've started watching them.

    1. MMORPGs are fun. But since I have an Apple they don't really work. I have been checking out a lot of steam games but there again.. Apple. Hoping that eventually more games will be able to played on both platforms. I do have Parallels on my iMac but not on my Macbook.

  16. I used to play the Zelda games but I haven't played one in a long time. I'm afraid that I would never resurface if I started playing again.

My husband and I went eagle-watching over the weekend. We saw 4 eagles, but unfortunately I didn't have my camera ready for the best view of one.

    1. I really get a kick out of it when I see an Eagle. They are just so majestic. Did you see how many are getting sick in Utah? Right now they don't know why or what is happening to them. :(

  17. My fiance and I are going to start playing Fantasy Football next season. I have no idea how to do it! Ahh! We are from Maine so we love the Patriots. I think we only missed one game this season living in Arizona. I used to live in Westminster, CO so when I was younger my uncle's family made me root for the Broncos. So I root for them when it's not a Pats game. :)

    1. Funny! My aunt and uncle live in MA so they are big Patriots fans. We always talk smack back and forth when the Broncos play them. Fantasy football is real easy though.. so you should get the hang of it pretty quickly. It might take a couple weeks to get in the swing of things but after that you'll get the gist. Hopefully you start with a good number in the draft.

  18. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I play the odd video game too (although I'm not very good at it) and Zelda is one of my favourites ... especially Wind Waker on the Gamecube!

    1. I love love Wind Waker. My favorite is Ocarina of Time. WOW... OK. My mom would just sit for hours with my sister and I and watch us play. This makes me want to replay it right now.

  19. I'm so lucky that I'm not into TV. I only really watch a few shows - the only one I watch weekly when its airing is FACEOFF on SyFy. The others are Grimm and uhh Big Bang Theory but usually I save up a batch of those on DVR to watch in a binge. I used to game but I get so obsessed with it that I wouldn't read at all. hell I wouldn't do ANYTHING else so I stopped gaming entirely except the occasional PS3 game no more MMOs for me.

    1. I love Faceoff soooo much! I do love Grimm and Big Bang too. It can be hard to quit games. Usually I play games that can be beat. It is true... MMOs can keep one playing and playing and playing. I tend to like some reality shows because since they are such fluff I can have them playing in the background as I read and then just look up every now and then to see what is going on and read again.

  20. I used to love playing Zelda, but I never owned it so I only got to play it at my friend's house. I love football, too! I'm a Cowboys & Panthers girl, though, but I do like the Broncos. I used to loooove watching racing! I was a Gordon fan too (as was most of my family), and Jimmie Johnson. I kind of lost interest in it for some reason, though. I should have included that in my post!
    Camping! And CATS! Yes :)

    1. I am going to a NASCAR race again this year. I wish there was one in my state. I always wonder why some states get approved for a track and others don't. I feel like there are a lot of fans in my area. But maybe not. My husband is a big Cowboys fan so they are my second favorite team.

  21. I love this post! I think sometimes people forget that reader/bloggers have other hobbies and pastimes. I love gaming, WOW with mu husband, board games -- have you ever played Hero Quest -- OMG you should :) its an old game and hard to find sometimes. I bake and I have a lot of pets that I love to play with and honestly I love spending time with my family. I am the oldest and the youngest is 8, so I go over there and hang out a lot (we normally watch football) :)

    1. I haven't played Hero Quest actually but I will check it out. We try to have a gaming night here with friends every few months or so. I wish that people could check out boardgames from the library. They are so expensive anymore. We went to buy Apples to Apples and it's like $30!

How fun that you live close to family. My parents live in another state but I see them several times a year. I am jealous of you. I have kitties too... but that is a post for next week!!

    3. Yea games can be really expensive, it is crazy. I made me start thinking about all the lost pieces i had as a kid and how my mom would be mad, now I understand why :/
